lyrics:
Hello, Dolly,
Well, hello, Dolly
It's so nice to have you back where you belong
You're lookin' swell, Dolly
I can tell, Dolly
You're still glowin', you're still crowin'
You're still goin' strong
We feel the room swayin'
While the band's playin'
One of your old favourite songs from way back when

So, take her wrap, fellas
Find her an empty lap, fellas
Dolly'll never go away again

Hello, Dolly,
Well, hello, Dolly
It's so nice to have you back where you belong
You're lookin' swell, Dolly
I can tell, Dolly
You're still glowin', you're still crowin'
You're still goin' strong
We feel the room swayin'
While the band's playin'
One of your old favourite songs from way back when

Golly, gee, fellas
Find her a vacant knee, fellas
Dolly'll never go away
Dolly'll never go away
Dolly'll never go away again

My grandfather was Mickey Kapp and produced this wonderful album, even winning a Grammy with Armstrong. He passed away this evening. RIP

If you don't like this song--I don't want to know you. What sublime joy. Although I was just a mere tot, I remember how much sheer happiness was attached to this song. People would forget their troubles and just kind of dance and sing along. God bless you Satchmo!

This is one of the few records I went out and bought after hearing it on the radio one time. I believe it is his biggest hit of all time.

I was only in first grade when this song first came out. It still sounds great 52 years later!

My First cousin was Jerry Herman. He told me that he always wanted to write music that people would hum as they left his show. Rest In Peace Jerry. ✡️

The banjo is very distinct and has such a great relationship with the trumpet in this song

What your are hearing are 400 years of the history of African American music in the U.S.A as captured in one moment by it most empathetic receiver. Beautiful, hip, human, and much more.

May Louis Armstrong, who brought so much happiness into the World - both with his great music and magical smile - rest in absolute peace.
As I recollect, this was number 1 in 1964 - yet it is still as fresh as it was then.
We need more like the great late Louis Armstrong to lift our depressed spirits.

When I was in high school, my Music Appreciation teacher played this song for us. This was in 2003/04 & I've loved it every since.

This song is so awesome that it ended the Beatles' streak of three songs in a row at the #1 spot on the pop charts back in '64.

At SIXTY-TWO years old, Satchmo of all artists put a pause on Beatlemania — at the top of the Hot 100 at least — with this smash. The Beatles had 3 consecutive No. 1 hits, replacing themselves at the summit with the 2nd and 3rd No. 1’s of their eventual 20.

Then they got pushed aside by a man 3x their ages who hadn’t had a top 10 hit in 8 years. 😯 “Hello Dolly” made him the oldest artist to top the Hot 100, a record that stands to this day as I write this comment on 12/5/22!

Also, this singles ended up spending 22 weeks on the Hot 100 in 1964, longer than any other song! It became the No. 3 hit of the entire year, behind the Beatles tunes “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “She Loves You, ” in that order. Anything is possible!
