When it comes to deadly poisons, many people often think of cyanide or arsenic, as some of the most dangerous ones out there. However, scientists seem to agree that botulinum toxin, produced by anaerobic bacteria, is the most toxic substance in the world. This nerve agent, commonly called Botox, is best known for its effect to smoothing wrinkles, by paralyzing muscles in the skin. It is estimated, that the lethal dose for humans is 80 nanograms. This means, that botulinum toxin is 100 billion times more toxic than cyanide, and that the lethal dose for 8 billion people would be only 640 grams!
