This video dismantles a common misperception about addiction, which is the idea that will power is enough to prevent someone from relapsing. This video begins with a brief explanation of what addiction is, including a few definitions to introduce the topic. It also describes the changes that occur in the brain with addiction to generally explain how this illness works. The video ends by describing how addiction can be treated, especially since it has now been explained why will power is not enough to prevent this illness from recurring. Through out the video, it is emphasized why will power, otherwise known as self-control, is not sufficient in preventing someone from using drugs again. If you, or anyone that you know, is struggling with substance use, know that you are supported and that there are resources available to help.
