Is Sora good enough?

I bought a btwin ultra 500 with Sora. The front derailleur rubbing issue is there from day 1. Even decathlon people are not able to fix yet..let's hope it gets fixed.

Nice video man! Sora is 9 speed. Claris is the 8 speed version. I have it, it works flawlessly, no chain rub and well adjusted. When you think about it, my first road bike had 5 speeds, yes it was a 1x5. Now my road bike (Giant Contend 2) has 16 speeds 2x8 ... to me thats all I need as I dont race, I just ride for fun and fitness. To me having 8 or 12 speeds on the back cassette makes little or no difference. Apart from that, the 6, 7 and 8 speed drivetrain versions have chunkier and more durable materials due to the fact that the gears are spaced out well and not too cramped, so the chain is wider for example. The jump between gears is bigger with a 6, 7 or an 8 speed drivetrain than with a 9, 10, 11 or 12 gears system. But you get used to it and you don't really need 12 gears for recreational and fitness purposes.

I have the claris. The jump between gears can be big for a 11-32.

Front shifting could be better.

4y ago and I am here 😂😂😂 bought a gravel with sora 9v originally 11-34. Do you think it would work with a 11-40 cassette 9v as well with no adjustments or links ?

I planned to buy the topstone sora and upgrade it if there’s a need. It was sold out everywhere. So was the tiagra. I talked myself into the 105 and bought it. End of the story: I am really, I mean really really happy. But I also have new stuff that I want to upgrade :D wheels, tires, wahoo, goldchain (yeah...) I guess it never ends. I am having similar issues with my Cannondale Topstone Sora. Overall I love the bike, but it was having some issues with the front derailer, and the chain rubbing. On several occasions, when I switched gears the chain would completely fall off. Had to take it to my local bike shop and get it looked at. Still seems to have hiccups with it every now and then. Not sure if that’s just an issue with my bike but I see you had some problems with yours as well. Nice and informative video however!

Well I’m a few years late lol, hopefully you still will see this, have you ever had any issues with chain retention? I had that exact speedster but sold it. I want to buy a jamis renegade that has the sora on it but I’m concerned about how the chain will stay on due to lack of experience
