Genetic engineering is the transfer of a gene from one organism to another organism.
Genetic engineering is the changing of the DNA in the genome of an organism.

When people don’t get enough vitamin A in their diet, they can go blind.
People with a vitamin A deficiency can eat golden rice.

Golden rice is made by removing the gene for beta-carotene from wheat or carrots. The beta-carotene gene is then inserted into the genome of rice.

When you eat golden rice, the beta-carotene helps form vitamin A, hopefully preventing the onset of blindness.
