This theory honestly makes a lot of sense, and Sega has done the "Sonic's friends are held captive by the bosses" thing before.
Sonic Advance 2's bosses had Sonic's friends captive (or operated in Knuckles' case) and by saving (beating in Knuckles' case) them, you unlock them as playable characters. They've done it before, they might revisit that, just on a larger scale this time

2021: *fucking mech the size of a colossal titan*

Ok here’s my theory: They’re the boss fights, and when you beat them they’re unlocked as playable characters.

I mean, to be fair, making statements and then deleting them gives this vibe of mystery, even the Tweet from SEGA could meant nothing and it's still intriguing because it makes tou question "why they deleted it then?" That's a great class on marketing, obviously won't work every time but damn if it's working right now

Maybe they are powering the robots like how Eggman’s badniks are powered by animals. Since they are more powerful than those tiny animals they can power a giant robot.

Maybe Amy is just TRAPPED in the mechs, they aren't actually them, because Amy's voice can still be heard telling Sonic: "D-Don't... it's too dangerous!"

I hate that I already thought of this idea when the Amy subtitle was revealed, but didn't say anything about it. My theory was pretty similar; I imagine the titans are taking control of all the other main characters, similar to how badniks are powered by animals. I also think Eggman got turned into a titan because he underestimated the power, and Sonic is the only one fast enough to outrun them

That’s a thought I kinda had. That would make a ton of sense as to why sonic would act more careful around that first boss in the gameplay teaser. And if we remember, sonic is staring right at that first colossus and Amy’s voice is much clearer. My only hope is that if Amy is Sonics side kick in this, that the friendship sticks but the love part is like lightly LIGHTLY sprinkled. Like maybe all sonic does is “hand her the jacket when she’s cold” cliché. And that’s it. Cause we don’t need this being a relationship game like ‘06 tried to be.

I had a theory that Amy is the leaked "ghost girl" in cyberspace. Like she got sucked into cyberspace somehow, or went there purposefully, and Sonic can make contact, but actually getting her back is easier said than done.

With this... maybe it happened to everyone!?
