For years I wanted to go to London and meet a Queens guard. He let me pet the horse and I when I said that it was a dream I had for so long, gave me a near silent "I am glad you came to see us."
I got super choked up. The guardmen helped my fufill one of my dreams.

I remember visiting the tomb with my high school class. We were getting loud and chatty when the guard basically told us to maintain respect in a in a very commanding voice. Well that's when a bunch of kids from NYC immediately shut up and showed the proper respect. Lesson learned and I'll never forget it.

As a daughter of veteran who succumbed to his wartime effects I am in awe of this tribute. Come on people !!! Soldiers and their families pay the ultimate price.

Right after 9/11 my mother was helping do accounting for the red cross in a warehouse in D.C(she was one of many who tallied the donations ) while she was there I went to visit her , one of my favorite places to see is Arlington, it was a cold day and there was no one around I had the whole place to myself as I walked through it it began to snow …hard it was such a surreal moment walking among the tombstones, the snow dampened any sound, so it was like my ears were stuffed with cotton, I stood there all by myself and watched these guys just them and me, you could hardly see 6 feet in front of you, but that day will stand in my memory forever .

On Armed Forces Day May 1987 I was AD Marine and I had always wanted to visit the Tomb of The Unknown Solder. I was stationed at MCB Quantico Virginia. I was a participant in the Armed Forces day at Quantico. Family was visiting and we went to Arlington Cemetery to go to the Tomb of the Unknown Solder. Before each ceremony it is announced to be respectful and silent during the ceremony and to remain behind the rails and chains. There was a family of 5 with young kids and the parents were not attending to their kids. After the ceremony I spoke with the parents and told them how rude and disrespectful they were especially in front of their kids. The parents were not respectful and the kids were not and it is not the fault of the kids and I asked if they had anyone in their families that sacrificed or gave it all up for our freedom, they just looked at me as if I was wrong or incorrect and just laughed at me. I was angry yes but mostly I had no respect for these karens what so ever. Rest in Peace Solider Known Only to God!

On a cold and windy morning in February, 1987 I witnessed the reverential respect that this site requires. I will never forget it as long as I live.

Respect to the soldiers carrying out their duties at the tomb in that monsoon level of rain. Being soaked through and extremely cold is exhausting 😮

Those young men who guard the tomb of the unknown soldier are absolutely magnificent in stature, dedication, and ultimate preparedness. It really takes a special person to do what they do because you have to be totally dedicated to maintain such discipline. I thank each and every one for their dedication to honor those who gave all for the United States Of America.

After 23 years of service I NEVER had that much discipline EVER. It takes more to do this job then me a a three time combat vet will ever have.

Becoming one of these guards is a VERY limited pool of soldiers. ONLY the very highest qualified are allowed.

This was on my bucket list to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. (I am a vet). Every American should witness this. You must be quiet, no gum, no phones, no food or drink.

So glad I don't have this job. I wouldn't have the patience in dealing with constant disrespect.
