Please do not forget the wonderful Betty Cantor Jackson for the incredible live recording. She is a bona fide audio goddess.

Garcia's solos are so profound, they can be soul splitting, and magical, especially to those listening from another dimension. I often saw grown men and women weeping in ecstasy at his shows, like their soul has been renewed. It didn't work all the time but when it did.... magic.

the dead finds everyone differently. BUT it always finds you when you need it most. Thank you Michael! its been a joy to watch your love for the dead grow

The challenge with trying to replicate any of this, is that Jerry had no desire to go back or revisit. It is great to watch you try to catch the rabbit. Your fluster only confirms why we loved Jerry; he was always looking for something different. Sometimes it didn’t work out, but when it did... that’s the magic.

This was just the right time for this posting! Not to be a downer, but earlier this afternoon my family had to say goodbye to one of our beagles. The other passed a couple years ago, and lord you know they made a fine connection. They loved each other. I'll take this as a sign that the two of them are upstairs grooving to the sweet musings of Jerry. THANKS MICHAEL!

"They aren't the best at what they do, they are the only ones that do what they do..." said by Bill Graham. 25 years ago we used it as our wedding song...The band we hired learned it for us and years latter I saw them again and they told me they still break it out for a great crowd reaction. They can tell who the "heads" are. Thanks

Your reaction is a great example as to why to one could listen to only Dead for very long periods of time and nothing else. I speak from experience! Great stuff Michael!

Most bands speed their tunes up live, not the Dead. This is almost half the speed of the 'Reflections' version, yet still swings. They just take their time with it. We get to hear more of Phil's wonderful 70's tone this way.

You will never get out of this rabbit hole michael! The woods are so big and the rabbits find so many ways to the light. There is literally forests of content with garcia. He was prolific, and as Bob Dylan says " he really had no equal"

I read once where Jerry described some of their improvisations as trying to untangle a knot. Sometimes you get it sometimes you don't, but voila when the final string is pulled through cleanly, what a moment....

I always thought Jerry exhibited the fragility and hope of human existence whenever he played. I'm glad you understand it.

I was there that night in Barton Hall.... what a show! The sound was crystal clear, just perfect.

It's amazing when you see what Jerry was really doing to be in the moment and also have the skill. As a trumpet player myself, I'm blown away. You're a Deadhead bro, it's all about the journey.

My first Dead show was the following night in Buffalo NY, it was three weeks before I joined the US Navy and low and behold got stationed in San Francisco.

This was the first Dead song which spoke to me as well, I picked this up a couple of years ago and then found Dead and Co.... Since, my daily music intake has been 60% Dead and I too have had a huge musical epiphany.

Everything about this track is brilliant!

Playin In The Band from Ventura 72 (Sunshine Daydream) the Jam in the middle is Miles Davis level jazz improv. Stunning

much space they provide within this song. Funny, they were at the time just jamming out and loving every minute of it. 43 years later, we appreciate like fine art.

Magical? Time to start diving into The Jerry Garcia Band. Jerry in a three piece. Creating the melody, holding the rythym and slaying the lead. He was a unicorn! Miss you Jerry!

Thanks for getting back to Cornell - what an incredible version. I can't carry a tune in a paper bag altho I am a wizrd on the air guitar. Your technical breakdowns on these songs mean nothing to me but watching your open, joyful reactions to these songs just makes me happy. At some point I hope you dive into a couple of versions of Stella Blue.
Drums>Space>The Other One from Silver Stadium, Rochester, NY '88 is an overlooked gem in my book, as is that whole show.

One of the best live albums ever. Sound wise, musically it's almost perfect.
