There are quite a few things that Oversimplified says in this one that are just little bit wrong, but many of them are of arguable importance. The one that I usually mention is that Hitler did not really shoot himself in the foot too much by declaring war on the US...war between the US and Germany was inevitable. As far as Hitler was concerned, the US had already declared war on Germany. In July 1941 the US "invaded" Iceland...thus replacing British troops needed elsewhere...and the US claimed the right to protect the troops on Iceland by expanding "US waters" halfway across the Atlantic. By August, the US had declared unrestricted naval warfare against all German ships anywhere in "US waters" and US Navy ships were beginning to assist with convoy escort duties alongside the British Navy...and on September 24, 1941, the USA officially signed the Atlantic Charter, thus committing to the defeat of Nazi Germany. If Hitler had not declared war on the USA in December, FDR would have ended up declaring war on Germany within 2 or 3 months anyway. 🖖✌

Japan is basically the Germany of Asia. However, they have one major difference and that is Germany sincerely apologised to their victim countries and illegalised any Nazi activity while Japan said sorry simply for the sake of it rather than truly repenting for their mistakes.

This is evident by the fact that most of the Japanese Prime Ministers including the longest running Abe are descendants, in one way or another, of the emperor that started World War 2 in Asia. They have shrines and memorials dedicated to their captains and generals from the war, most of which are class-A war criminals. The Prime Ministers are notorious throughout Asia for regularly paying respect at these shrines despite the constant complaint from their neighbours.

The Rising Sun flag that was used to symbolize Japanese imperialism while occupying countless countries is commonly seen in the streets and shop windows even until today. Recently they were criticized by the rest of Asia and eventually banned for trying to wave the flag at the Tokyo Olympics.

Hate speech isn't illegal in Japan and so protests to deport non-Japanese residents from the country while shouting derogatory terms and holding racist signs are demonstrated from time to time in wide open streets with the police to escort the crowd instead of deterring them.

If you want to see the events from this and part 1 on actual recordings from the time, I heavily recommend reacting to WW2 in 39 minutes.

Important to note: the Japanese Emperor also surrendered because of the nightmare perspective of Soviet occupied Japan. Stalin would indoctrinate the cpountry and eliminate all opposition. The thought of communist Japan weighed as heavily on the Emperor as the A bombs, especially since they knew the Americans did not have an unlimited supply.

the usa empire is the only empire that didnt try to take over the world when it could have. 1st country to develop nuclear weapons. the usa instead chose to rebuild europe, russia, and japan while creating a free and fair global trading market connecting the world.

Guys, love your reactions to history! If you haven’t seen these films on WW2, strongly recommend Saving Private Ryan about the Normandy invasions; Jo Jo Rabbit, a really black comedy take on Nazi Germany; Schindler’s List about the Holocaust; Empire of the Sun about the Japanese in the war; finally Das Boot, an award winning German film about Nazi U boats.
