1:57 it was definitely out of greed, Japan didn’t NEED to go to war, they chose to. You even admitted the expansion was for material to contribute to the war effort. It’s almost like explaining every little detail about a war as massive as ww2 in a short YouTube video will extend it to a multi hour long endeavor, which is likely why Oversimplified chose not to cover details like this. Especially since it’s a comedic video, and saying “they wanted to join the war bus” is objectively a lot funnier than saying “they needed more material to commit a proper genocide.”

I think one big History myth that popped up, not on oversimplified but one that I saw on extra history, part if Extra Credits channel. It said that the RAF was on the ropes and that the Luftwaffe was beating them, and if Hitler hadn't changed focus to civilian targets then the RAF wouldn't have the breathing room to repair. This is also one that I saw brought up on a video by Possible History debunking one persons way of having Germany win ww2, one of the things done being not refocusing on civilian targets. But what you have to understand is that Britain had the home field advantage, a British Pilot gets shot down and they can land in friendly territory, the Germans can't do the same, each pilot shot down is a pilot lost but not for the Brits. And if you look up a chart of German air losses vs British air losses you can see the Germans were taking unsustainable casualties even before the Blitz on London and refocusing on London was an attempt to lesson their losses but it failed.

And the entire video he doesnt mention resistance fighters at all.
"The Soviet Union took Warsaw" is all he says about the "liberation" of Poland, as if the Warsaw Uprising wasnt the biggest armed resistance movement in WW2 History.

I only have a few issues with the video, everything that he didn’t mention is just a consequence of… ya know, oversimplification. If anything, he spared Russia the embarrassment of their early collaboration and awkward rejections of their attempts to join the axis powers, portraying them as a victim rather than pointing out how much they caused their own issues

1. Britain did not randomly bomb civilians in Germany as a strategic target; they had completely missed their military target, like Germany did all the time (even bombing Ireland multiple times accidentally) and Hitler used it as propaganda to justify the Blitz and force submission. Britain also had been outproducing Germany in planes and boats, and weren’t under the threat of anything besides economic collapse

2. France were not as dimwitted as portrayed; they had been lied to by the United States who promised military support in the case of future German aggressions in exchange for more lenient terms in the WW1 treaty. The BEF was also pathetically small for the context of WW2, even if it was the first mechanized infantry it was literally just a token effort that ended up gifting Germany all of its equipment when it was abandoned. Belgium had also refused France’s efforts to extend the Maginot line, basically France was the only one who actually anticipated the danger Germany posed and they faced the greatest consequence but people now believe on a wide scale they were just too proud and arrogant

3. Yugoslavia did not opt to be invaded, they overthrew their Nazi collaborating regime to resist which is pretty heroic.

I can see your point, but remember, these videos were some of his earlier ones. His recent Punic Wars were absolute masterpieces, with amazing animation, comedy, and intensity. His most recent video, The Second Punic War, Part 3, was probably, no, definitely, the best animation video I have ever watched. If it aired in theaters, it would probably get higher ratings than Captain America: Brave New World.

I would love for him to remake some of his older videos. Nowadays he makes like two 40 minute videos about wars that the average person hasn’t even heard of
