Sous Vide ONION EXPERIMENT! What's the best way to use ONION with your steak?

This video is all about onion, steak and sous vide. As a huge fan of onion I wanted to find out the best way to get the awesome onion flavor into your steak. This onion experiment has a total of 4 steaks. I choose to use the New York Strip steak for this cook. The onion contestants are, Raw Onion, Chopped Dehydrated Onion and Onion Powder. I also added a control steak as per my subscribers request from my garlic experiment.

After cooking these steaks sous vide and using the searzall to finish them off, the result was very unexpected to all of us. The one that came out on top I was not even planning on using it. So it was a big shocker! This experiment was awesome and I also included a Q&A which maumau answer how he got his nick name. The Q&A is in the end of the video, make sure you check that out.

HOW TO COOK SOUS VIDE STEAKS WITH ONION
I cooked it for 2hrs @ (129°F / 53.8°C)

* INGREDIENTS * I used for this sous vide cook.

4 New York Strip Steaks (About 1.5 inch thick)
Rock Salt
Fresh Black Pepper
Powder Onion
Dehydrated Chopped Onions
Raw Onion

Ive never wanted to use the dehydrated onion, i always go for the real raw onion. But the way you guys go crazy over the dehydrated onion definitely changed my mind... GREAT VID!!!!

These type of videos have been so helpful. I wish I had waited to see this video before prepping and vacuum sealing a bunch of rib eyes. I have been doing salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. 135 for 2 hours, pat dry the meat, sear under the infra red broiler, and finally baste on some butter and garnish with chopped chive. Had I waited to watch the onion challenge, I would have used the dried chopped instead of powder. I look forward to trying this. Good job on the video.

Just got a Searzall for my b-day and I used it for the first time with this recipe. In addition to the seasoning blend you used I added some dried garlic to it. The steaks came out great and they tasted amazing just like you said, I wish I could have shared a picture. Thanks so much guys for all your videos and keep up the good work.

Tried this last weekend did 2 with chopped dehydrated onions and 2 plain, for the kids. Both had sea salt added. Same cook time and finished 2 with a torch and 2 on the bbq, for the kids since they don't like it too rare. Amaaaazing results. So much flavor I have been thinking about it all week. Making some this evening and trying powdered onion. I say to all the cynics out there try it before you trash talk it. Good job boys, cheers!
