Patellar Apprehension Test

The patellar apprehension tests evaluates for patellar instability and patellofemoral pain syndrome. The patient is supine. The examiner applies lateral pressure to the patella and then returns the patella to neutral. The examiner then applies medial pressure to the patella. In the modified version, the knee is moved into flexion while maintaining medial or lateral pressure. A positive test is pain or apprehension.
