Don't use the term "steam gauges" as the correct term is analog gauges. It is analog instruments versus digital instruments.

The biggest issue though is guys need to be careful about what claims they file with the VA. It can come back to bite you and you may have to get a special issuance, a statement of demonstrated ability (SODA), or get denied all together. It's an unfortunate reality that with aviation you're only one medical away from a career change.

Good information brother, keep them coming!

Excellent information! Unfortunately, I got discharge 51 years ago from the Air Force. Paid out of pocket for my private while I was in. But it was cheap by comparison to today's costs! And my buddy owned the plane and was a CFI. More savings.
And our GI Bill was pretty good back then.
Best wishes on an aviation career!! I did not pursue mine, as no one, I mean no one was hiring pilots back in the mid '70s.
Love the helmet! Practical, as well!

You should see if there’s space for a tube to carry that heated air back to your seat, unless that breaks some rule with certified aircraft

Hey brother, thanks for posting this video. I’ve been active duty for the last 8 and half years and now ready to move onto the 1st CivDiv 😂

So what I got from your video is that you recommend going to a traditional college first to get the PPL then transfer to a different school to get the other certifications? What I read online is that GI Bill and VR&E won’t cover the PPL portion. Does that mean go do the traditional college route first? Thanks again.

USAF vet here. I was in from 80 - 83. When I was in we had VEAP. Where you contributed one dollar and the government kicked in $2. Practically a non existent GI Bill.

So if I already have a bachelors degree I’m screwed?

I’m not sure about other states but in Wisconsin, I was given the post 911 GI bill and the Wisconsin GI bill. I know some people think they have exhausted their benefits, you might have more than you think

Hey Brother, It has been my dream to get my license and possibly even do this as a career. BUT! I can not find a collage around Virginia that says they include privet pilots license, some programs say they do offer it but I have to pay for it myself, everyone that I have called has told me so far that I have to pay for that on my own. HOW do I find a collage that will let you do what you have done with the GI Bill? I am determined and want to do this.

I guess since I am a veteran from the 80's I am out of luck here. The VEAP was a joke. I am paying out of pocket for part 61, and it's shockingly expensive.

I’m active duty and trying to start my PPL. I don’t want to wait until I get out to go to a Part 141 school full-time. If get my PPL before I get out, I’ll have a head star and I’ll use my GI bill for the rest of my training. Do you know of any way I can cut costs since I’ll be paying out of pocket?

I didn’t know you could get your private as a veteran. I got into this loophole saying I got to get my private first 🤦‍♂️ so glad that got cleared up

Lot's of questions about how this works... The school's handling of the fees is what matters. There's no reason to fund parts of the training yourself if you don't want to. It's all college dependent. If the school has flight fees under their normal school fees the VA will pay for the "fees". The VA will pay for all public school fees associated with a degree giving program, either Part 61 or part 141, the part doesn't matter. The easiest way to do this for free is going to a college that offers aviation and also with a college that has funds allocated in such a way that the VA will pay. A school that says "The VA won't pay for XYZ course" is ignorant. That's a school allocation of funds/fees problem, not a VA problem. If you don't want to go to college, then you'll need to pay for some stuff yourself. Otherwise, find a college that works with the fees and get everything for free while you can.
