Mega Man 3 Easy Cheats - Retrogaming Easter Eggs #shorts

In Mega Man 3 for the NES, there are numerous ways to cheat (or at the very least make the game silly and amusing) simply by holding some buttons on Controller 2.

HIGH JUMP: Holding Right on the D-Pad of Controller 2 will allow Mega Man to jump extra high.

SLOW MOTION: Holding the Up arrow on the second controller will slow down most game animations, making certain enemies much easier to defeat.

FREEZE ENEMIES: Also, holding Up and A button on Controller 2 will cause most enemies and bosses to completely freeze, allowing you to easily dispatch goons like Top Man. There are some exceptions, though, so you gotta play around with these cheats to find out.

I feel like because of this 2 player Easter Egg that Mega Man 3 would have been a good way to get someone accustomed to Mega Man before Save Sates or access to a Game Genie. Although back then the only way you'd find this out is if you had an annoying little brother like me messing around with controller 2

I forgot how some 1 player nes games would do wierd things if the 2nd controller was used during play.

You forgot to mention one benefit to the "dropping into the pit and not dying until you let go of second controller's right button" trick. If you keep pressing right on and off, eventually megaman's power bar depletes completely, and if you are quick enough and hold right in time and jump out of the pit, megaman will still be alive with zero health, but for some reason will be invincible/unkillable for the rest of the stage. It's a little tricky, and doesn't always work, because as soon as his power depletes you have about a second before he actually dies and the screen goes back to the "ready" prompt. But if you're quick, it can work... some of the time. It's pretty cool!

I remember playing this with a friend and I used the 2p controller and said "I'll help you!", mashed some buttons, and accidentally discovered this. We freaked out!

The fact that “dying” in the pits would stop the music made playing the rest of the level kinda weird and almost creepy.

So here's the kicker: that pit avoiding trick is actually mentioned in the manual for Megaman 3.

Mega Man 3 also has a glitch where you can get Rush Jet without needing to defeat Needle Man. Once you defeat Shadow Man and get Rush Marine, open the menu and move the cursor to Shadow Blade. Then press right on the d-pad. You'll hear the cursor move but notice nothing is highlighted. Press Start, and you'll select Rush Jet even though it's meant to be unavailable. It will have zero weapon energy, but getting an energy pickup and using the power will cause the game to just add it to the menu, and boom! Early Rush Jet.
