I always love how the show started with the implication that Fry’s family didn’t give a crap that he was gone, but down the line you see that him disappearing was the worst thing that ever happened to them.

Notice how the mom looks at the dad when she says his crap is in the basement. The dad acts like he doesnt care but clearly he kept his sons stuff which is super sad.

I feel so dumb for the longest time not noticing that naming the baby Philip also had another significance. The obvious one being that Yancy named his son after his brother but also the fact that his father named him Yancy and it had been a family tradition going back to the American Revolution which was over 200 years but he still broke it

This scene has always stayed with me when I watched this episode as a kid. Even after all these years it still makes me cry.

Such a great mix of sentimentality and humour. That "I love you Phillip" gets me every time. Real tearjerker.

Something that took me a long time to realize about this scene is that the clover came through for Fry one last time. He spent his entire life thinking no one cared about him being gone, that no one from his old life loved him, etc. In the end, he believed in the clover so much that he hunted it down only to discover that he was wrong. He was deeply loved and missed by his family. Remember, this episode came before Jurassic Bark, too. He truly thought everyone he cared about just moved on and didn't care that he was gone, Seymour included, but in the end, the clover comes back into his life to prove him wrong and give him some much needed peace.

It's heartwarming to know that Yancy named his son after his brother and his son became everything Fry ever wanted to be.

This scene made me choke up. Yancy said “I love you Philip, **looks at Fry’s drawing** and I always will.” He was talking about his son AND his brother.😢

They say Jurassic Bark is the saddest, it was depressing, but THIS was the closet I ever came to crying at a TV show

I love how they made it seem like Yancy didn't care about Fry at first but later they show that he really loved him. I also love how they made it seem like Yancy did steal the clover like Fry thought, but here they reveal that he wasn't trying to take it. He was looking for his stuff to find something to play at his wedding, and he stumbled upon the clover and held onto it for safekeeping.

I lost my brother almost a year ago. Like with Yancy and Phil, I'm the firstborn, and he was second. I'm also named after my father and grandfather and such. When I have kids, I will name my second son after him. In that part where Yancy says "I love you Philip", I said my own version in my eulogy for him. "I love you, little brother. I always had and I always will."

The first time I watched this, I didn't quite 100% pick up on the fact that all the accomplishments Fry was attributing to his brother Yancy were really the accomplishments of Yancy's son Philip, whom Yancy had named after his lost brother and given his clover. But I _did_ pick up on the fact that Yancy actually loved his brother more than Fry had believed, and wanted to honour him through his son. For me, it's the part where his wife tells him it's okay to name him Philip that gets me. Not just because his wife understands and supports it (which is really sweet), but because it reminds you that Yancy is breaking a family tradition going back generations, in order to carry on Fry's spirit.

Tom Kenny really nails the emotional gut punch in this scene. Like they say, comedy is harder than drama, so if you can nail comedy...

Yancey’s son used the clover and followed his uncles dreams and changed the world, that’s why Fry fits in so seamlessly in the year 3000

It’s still very sweet that Fry’s brother passed down his dreams instead of claiming them for his own. It proves that Yancey did care for Fry.

Growing up I lost my younger brother to a work accident. This episode really made me take a step back and think of the good time we had. Very underwater episode for me.

To all the brothers with complicated/estranged relationships, make peace before all you have left are the memories.

Always loved this scene and watching it just now made me tear up. “Son I’m naming you Phillip J Fry in honour of my little brother, who I miss every day. I love you Phillip, and I always will.”

0:09 That was the saddest part for me. Outlandish, goofy characters showing genuine emotion always get me.
