Here's a quick way to test for stick drift on your Xbox or PlayStation controller. You can download Game Controller Tester for free on Windows to test for most problems with your controller.

Or look for the USB game controller settings which have been integrated into Windows since XP. Or even earlier.

This works with modern controllers as well as older controllers and more bespoke things like joysticks, steering wheels etc.

I actually have been using this app on my Xbox, because 2 of my most recent controllers, including the 20th anniversary and basic series s controller, both managed to end up with stick drift on the opposite stick

I have that same controller and my left thumb stick had lost it's press function, you can still press it and it clicks but nothing happens when you do🤷

You can use the built in game controller manager in Windows to see what this shows.

also in that application u should adjust the Deadzone to 0 since by default it is 10, Maybe it has drift at 5% and you don't realize it for that reason

Yes thank you, literally just watched a 6minute YouTube video and checked my purchased used controller. Stick drift sounds way more involved then just checking if it's centered. Even after watching that video. Thanks for quelling my worries. Another test is if you toggle all the way to one side and it's only 75%. Easy peasy.

luckily some games let you adjust the dead zone of the controllers litteraly fixes the issue

Go to control panel > Devices and Printers > Right click your game controller > go to game controller settings > properties. That's it. You don't need any additional software

I think for people who didn't know it was great, but there are many websites that do the same so you really only need a browser, doesn't matter what os you have.

If it’s an Xbox one… you can just get the Xbox Accessories app for your PC. That’ll not only let you test to see if you have drift but it can also correct it for you
