Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is one of the hottest scams in academia, but what is it? It is a psychological grooming mechanism used to open up children through "social" and "emotional" means to Woke Marxist ideology and praxis. It is clinical psychology practiced without a license in uncontrolled, non-therapeutic spaces on groups of children with no mental disease. It is a data-mining scheme used to probe our nations' children so they can be better propagandized in the future. I’m a public school teacher and I couldn’t really understand why teachers were pushed to be more of a parent/counselor/friend and less of a teacher which makes for a stressed out teacher and kids with more and more issues that simply can’t be resolved in the classroom.

Okay, I haven't watched the video yet, but every time I hear the phrase "social emotional learning, " several nodes in my brain start screaming in fear and loathing. Everything about it sounds like emotional manipulation.

There are a thousand ways SEL will go wrong. But I bet it is more fun than teaching math so teachers will love it. They get to play hero and savior.

My ultra-left county's public schools have blown right past SEL. In documents pried out of the Montgomery County (MD) Public School system by Judicial Watch, it turns out that it is using "psychoeducational" lessons on race in fourth through eighth grades. In brief, "psychoeducational" is defined as, "a form of education that is specifically offered to individuals who are suffering from any one of several distinct mental health conditions impairing their ability to lead their lives." By giving such "lessons" to all fourth though eighth graders the school system must consider them to have "mental health conditions impairing their ability to lead their lives, " and is using teachers as their therapist. It is appropriate for the following "distinct mental health conditions: "Some of the various conditions that may merit psychoeducational intervention include various anxiety disorders, personality disorders, psychotic illnesses, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and clinical depression." But they are using it to "treat" presumed racism. This country's public schools have gone completely insane yet presume to give psychological "treatment" to perfectly healthy children.

I have an autistic child. His teachers pushed him to his breaking point with SEL, to the point where he was having very severe meltdowns which were traumatic for him and everyone else. Luckily special needs parents call all the shots. We had the ability to get them to teach him appropriately because we have an IEP (individualized education plan). Every kid deserves that honestly.

When I was teaching science, it was mandatory to integrate SEL practices in the classroom. Once a week, the administration would give teachers a slideshow to indoctrinates kids on one aspect of SEL after another. I always tried to undercut the lessons but there's a reason why there are few conservative teachers anymore.

I thank God that I teach music. Whenever an honest debate on religion, philosophy, or politics pops up, we pack up early and I let them hash it out. I don't bring up my own beliefs, but I certainly push back on this weirdness.

we prevent competition between schools to win customers/students, and lock them into geographical locales just like how HMO medical insurance does. That's a recipe for disaster.

We should have always let the free market provide education, where the better teachers get chosen and paid more, schools compete to win customers, so they're incentivized to improve actual learning techniques, copy what works when one competitor blows the others out of the water, and creates a de-regulated way where innovation can happen without first devoting your entire career to politics, jumping through hoops, or getting approval from a superintendent, the county, the courts, and the state.

Some people will teach whatever garbage they want, but the fierce competition would create an abundance of options (as well as non-profits and charities for education).
Just like how yes, some restaurant COULD serve bad food, but they will quickly find that customers will choose to get food elsewhere.

We have created a poverty and shortage of education options and innovation, even chasing out hopeful and passionate teachers with bureaucracy and stuffing their schedules full of the exact prescribed cookie-cutter curriculum so that there isn't even room if they wanted to.
