Hey everyone, welcome to a new minimalism video. I talk about why you don't need more stuff, and why buying more stuff won't make you a happier person. Why it generally won't make your life better. And of course, how to go from always being on the lookout for the next thing to buy, to being content with and grateful for the things you already own.

Even after 8 years of living a minimalist lifestyle, I still catch myself wanting to buy a new piece for my wardrobe if I feel insecure. Or getting influenced by an ad for something fancy, thinking my life would somehow be better if I owned that fancy thing. However, I now know that it doesn't work that way. At least, not for me. Minimalist living has taught me many wonderful things :) And it continues to do so. I hope you'll enjoy this relaxing video. Let me know your thoughts about how much stuff is in your life (and how much you'd like there to be).

Lots of love,
🌼 Vera

Happy Friday my friends 🤗🍵 What is one small thing you've done to live a more intentional life?

I've simplified my wardrobe to follow my life style. I have about 10 items for each season, summer then winter. This doesn't count my undergarments. I have two pairs of shoes and winter boots. I have one purse. I always feel nice in my clothes and never worry what to wear.

I’m becoming a minimalist to help with my anxiety. I always feel so overwhelmed with all the stuff that surrounds me.

I have a slight notebook addiction (I know that I'm not alone in this). I saw an advert for a new stone diary today and was half way through ordering it when I made myself get up, go to the shelf where I keep all my empty or part-filled notebooks, and quit the purchase. It's slow progress with this one.

This is so amazing, I kept playing this all over and over again. Your voice, your content is everything I need to hear everyday to remind myself in this journey. Thank you. Love you from Viet Nam 💝

So true that the more insecure we feel the more we purchase, our spending and buying is so linked to our sense of self worth and value, so the better we feel internally the less we need externally. Great video, thanks for sharing :) :)

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. my journey to minimalism is almost the same as yours. I had an epiphany when I study abroad where we have to move out of a house every 9 months. can you imagine how much hassle that is? so I decided to downsize my items and only keep essential stuff and buy only needed. since then I think my journey to minimalism is gradually becoming better. especially in purchasing garments, I am very particular in what I want so that saves me from mindlessly spending 😂 I am thankful for this journey, I started to know myself!

One thing toward minimalism: It's not a small thing, but I am working on making a list of EVERYTHING I own and then highlighting the things I feel I need. Being accountable for every possession encourages me to own less.

I have never taken the time to tell you how much I enjoy your videos! I love your calm voice and the pictures you show are the kind that always inspire me to live a simple life! Nature feeds my soul! I have gotten rid of so much but I decided this week after many years of keeping things that are valuable and I could sell, that I didn’t want that burden anymore! I have found a foundation that helps woman and children and I have packed up about 6 boxes (so far!) to donate. The weight that has been lifted isn’t even able to be explained! I feel so much joy, happiness and freedom! Thanks for always inspiring!!

It was such a good idea to use birds to compare us with. They do have freedom. I am certain this video spoke to everyone, it did to me. ☮️

"It starts with the item, because we buy it for specific purpose." I LOVE THAT.

Succinctly stated.

Your analogy about the birds almost made me cry. That's such a cute thought! ❤️

Vera, I have always loved your background music in your videos, I fall asleep every night with this type of music, it is so true that we need to focus on what we have and appreciate all the stuff we already have and not just buy more stuff that clutters up our space & mind. I agree with you about “birds”, I also love watching them and I’m jealous of their freedom, their little feathers blowing in the wind is so adorable and peaceful. We need constant reminders like this to stay on track so thank you for another thoughtful video! 🦭

Honestly, this is my favorite video on minimalism. I love the idea of looking at what to get rid of rather than what to add in. I have felt insatiable so much, always looking for the next thing and when I get that it is not satisfying. Thank you for this video, Vera!

I watch a lot of minimalism videos on YouTube and I really like them all and and I'm inspired by them. There is something wonderful about your videos though in the way you talk about things in a very clear, practical, intuitive, intelligent and broad minded way. Your videos, including this one always provide food for thought which inspires me to try doing things and thinking about things in different ways. Thank you so much.

I like the idea that if I had to leave my apartment in a hurry for some reason and knew I wasn’t coming back that I could fit everything that mattered or that I needed into one car (with the exception of furniture and large appliances of course). I travelled for work before Covid so I guess that was a big influence. But also I left home with very short notice. I’d prefer to save money than spend it and Covid showed me that was a really good habit. I also prefer to buy quality, like 1 good quality item rather than 5 crappy items. As a bonus this is also far better for the environment.
When I get a little relaxed I come to nice videos like this to remind me.

You just saved me a lot of money... My fav clothing site was having season end sale from tomorrow for which I had wishlisted quite a lot of stuff (which I want, but don't actually need) your video is right on time to remind me that I don't need to buy all that stuff.
Thanx vera 😘

Love your videos. This resonates so much. I went overseas for a couple months in 2016 and brought two GIANT suitcases full of clothes I mostly didn't even wear.
