Easy Liam Knit Baby cardigan with straight needles PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS STEP BY STEP CROCHET TUTORIAL
In today's tutorial I will show you how to knit this absolutely beautiful baby cardigan sweater, coat or jacket for baby boys and girls between 0-3 months. This little “Liam” cardigan is knit using straight needles and knit all in one piece from the top down. You can knit this little cardigan sweater smaller or bigger by simply changing needle size, see below. Remember THESE SIZES ARE NOT EXACT THEY ARE APROXIMATE SINCE NOT ALL BABIES ARE THE SAME SIZE AND SINCE TENSION WILL VARY FROM ONE PERSON TO ANOTHER

Size:
NB use 2.5mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
0-3M use 3mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
3-6M use 3.5mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
6-9M use 4mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn
9-12M use 4.5mm needles with #3, DK or 8ply yarn

12-24M use 5mm needles with Aran, #4 or 10ply yarn
2-3YR use 5.5mm with Aran, #4 or 10ply yarn

**NOTE for the sleeves where I change to smaller needles go down 1/2 needle size from which ever needles you're using above

Thanks for watching!!! 🥰🙏

This is the BEST tutorial that I have ever seen. Thank you so much for this. Love the sweater.

I love the way you knit the entire sweater without breaking the yarn! I've never seen that done before but it sure makes sense and is easier. I will definitely be making this. Thank you ❣️

Wow, the best part of this for me was to find someone who holds their needles and yarn exactly like me! I crocheted first then self taught knitting so I followed my crochet habits with holding the yarn and such. My mother has a fit when she sees me knit and tells me it’s wrong 😂 I sure knit faster than she does though. LOL Now, off to try making this for my newest grand baby!

I would love to see more knitting videos with top-down cardigans.

This pattern turned out to be the best, because you put the sweater on hold but work the sleeves front and back. My sleeves turned out perfect, but I may have added 2-3 rows extra with too many stitches, because instead of 57 stitches in back, there are maybe 300! But love this pattern best so far. Also, it’s slick to use longer metal needles instead of circular needles this time. Baby Merino wool from Debbie Bliss works beautifully.

I want to make this for my son but his arms are 12 months sized and his torso is 18 months. (He’s a long baby). Would you suggest going up to 18months for size or just adding an extra inch to the bottom? Do I need to size up needles and yarn weight too?

Am I right that you missed writing a knit stitch on the first repeat row. It should be k1 yo k1 yo k1 p1?

Question? In your comment that you used a 3.0mm for 3 mo cardigan you stated you went down to 2.75mm for sleeves. That is only 1/4 size down. Should it have been 2.5mm which is 1/2 size. Please respond! Thanks

I am a bit confused. During the first row of the first repeat you wrote down K1 yo K1 yo P1 but in reality you worked one more K1 before the P1… which is the correct way to go? I just finished this row exactly like you did in the video but it’s definitely not like the written instruction. I’m very new at knitting… this would be my first project ever apart from some very small and random samples😂 so could you please explain that part? Thank you!!❤
