How to trace and solve idle issues on your Toyota 4A-GE Engine (some may work for other Toyota Engines as well!)

Possible causes of wrong idle on your Toyota 4AGE engine can include:

4. How to spot a vaccum leak

another idle issue on the 4age could be the coolant temp sender, causes floating idle and hesitation on throttle.

I heard that if you set the CO mixture to lean, the engine will suffer, that is why Toyota (by default) they put the CO mixture a bit rich, is that right? Thanks mate! Good job!

Hi Joao this has been helpful I managed to reconditioned 4age DISTRIBUTOR, BUT AM HAVING PROBLEM MY 4AGE S3 WHEN ITS BEEN DRIVEN 30TO 40 KMS ONCE I SWITCHED OFF DOES NOT START FOR 5 T0 10MNS.HOWEVER WHEN PLUG THE JUMP BATTERY WILL START. warm regards dear, my 4AGE engine has about 4 throttle bodies and it misfires at 2500 rpm and doesn't idle at 900 rpm nor even 1000 rpm, could my TPS have problem?
