Oh man, this brings back memories. People in the outside world have no idea. I now work at a research institute. The first time I was explaining how grades really work, my new coworkers all thought I was making crap up. They were horrified.

I just came to terms with the fact that my grade for student teaching wasn't impacted by them failing and my CT was tenured so I started failing without remorse

Reminds me of that one athlete that didnt want to get off an airplane and cops were talking amongst themselves about how good an athlete he was and coddling him, but flight attendant was clearly distraught.

I just put the grade the student deserves in grade book, and I explain to parent if they reach out! School Admin sometimes make your job difficult!

Yeaaa I dont comply to any of that. You get the grade you earned.

I wish I had this video to refer to when I was student teaching.

My brother was grilled by his principal on why a student had less than 50% and my brother said, "Because he's missed more than half my class and hasn't turned anything in all year." His assignments were all available online and he had tried to reach both the student and the parents multiple times.

I teach at a city school. Id say the least important part of my job is grading. About 2 of the parents care about their kids grades.

Yeah my district has a policy of minimum 50 on all assessments and minimum 50 for the marking period. Didn’t you know the numbers 0-49 actually don’t exist!

You just have to bomb some assessments and do a few assignments and boom! You’ve shown that you’ve perfectly mastered X subject!

This makes me laugh and get Annoyed at the same time.

I don't understand the US school system. It seems so illogical. But if it works, it works. During my time working in schools here in the UK, we would mark fairly and honestly, but the main rule we had was to mark in green, not red. I think it's because red gives negative connotations.

I put the real grades in the comments or on paper so I have accurate reflection of their actual growth to work off of and let the district have whatever fairy tale they want in the books.

I am so happy I can write my own tests and grade by percentage-of-point-achieved table. No bullshit from someone else as long as the average grade isn't too bad.

Yeah thankfully I teach in California.

Frightenly true! My district did the 50% thing. Also...an administrator changed a grade for a kid. Why even bother giving grades?

Love the Satire! But seriously…this is one primary example of why our world is going to hell in a hand basket. Let’s stop the Participation Trophy mindset!!

Too funny. There is some truth to this.

I have no fear of the athletic staff... They play by the same rules everyone else does.
