Carnot Cycle Derivation

The efficiency of a Carnot cycle heat engine can be derived from just the first and second law of thermodynamics. Since drawing heat from the surroundings at the heat source decreases entropy, heat must be expelled into the surroundings at the cold sink to generate entropy to make up the difference.
