Dell XPS 13, 14 and 16 hands-on at CES 2024

Dell is bringing the bold design of last year's XPS 13 Plus to the rest of the XPS lineup ahead of CES 2024 in Las Vegas — and now that includes new 14-inch and 16-inch models. The "Plus" name is also gone entirely: the new models are simply called the XPS 13, 14 and 16. They all sport the defining featured of the XPS 13 Plus: A seamless glass wrist rest, which hides an invisible haptic touchpad right in the middle; touch sensitive function buttons above the keyboard; and large key caps for more comfortable typing. And notably, the larger two models fix some of my biggest issues with the XPS 13 Plus.

Capacitive function row is a deal breaker for many.

Developers heavily rely on function keys, and Dell replaced them by a touch system that really reduces productivity. Such a shame to not know your customers and just blindly copy the worst from Apple.

Okey... They killed off XPS line. They tried "new" design with XPS 13 PLus, failed miserable and then like "ahh it'll be file"... Iam not going to repeat obvous thisngs about keyboard, function keys and esc key as a separate problem and track pad. But XPS was the last slick looking device with mate screen, it seems they are killing that off to. Big mistake! And the best thing of last XPS was internal materials, that feel of carbonfiber on palm rest... I hope someone will pick up that design!

I definitely think this is a major downgrade on all fronts. Worse design that is much more susceptible to damge because of the glass decklid, much worse keyboard from most people's perspective, no AMD option which is a shame and the biggest problem is that it does not allow for upgrades. Previous XPS 15 and 17 devices had an extra M.2 Slot and replaceable memory. Micro SD is another downgrade from the Full size SD of previous models. I hope very few people buy this so that they take a hint.

Please if apple can bring back HDMI, so can Dell. No more dongle hell please.

With a horrible function key row, only 3 USB-C ports, no HDMI, MicroSD, the inability to upgrade the RAM, these are going to be non-starters for most anyone who creates any kind of content -- photographers, video editors, developers, etc. Time to learn lessons from Apple, Dell!

it should’ve had a full size SD card slot instead. and please stop with non-button keys! keyboards should be tactile!

No physical fn keys. As a vim user this is a deal breaker

It got more uglier lol and they still insist on no physical function row and trackpad.

Its supposed to be a 2024 laptop and the function keys look like they off a lg chocolate from 2005

wait for 2027. New EU regulations that force manufacturers to make devices that have user replaceable battery packs will kick in then. There is simply no point in buying something so expensive that you cannot get a replacement battery for in 4 -5 years time. i want a laptop that i can use for ATLEAST 10 years.

I have been using this latop for a couple of weeks and hate the keyboard. My previous XPS 13 was much much better. The keys on this new one are so close together that it is almost impossible not to hit neighbouring keys whilke typing.. I think potential buyers need to be made aware that they will need to buy a bluetooth keyboard to do any serious typing.

Dell is a past of themselves. Why is there no miniled touch option? Or at least qhd ips with no touch. 1080p with 16inch? Really? Wtf. I do not need burn in with oled. Also the old xps17 has more tdp than this one. Wtf2. Why is the sd card only mini? This laptop is not what i expect for that much money. I will take a look to asus/rog. Last years flow x16 looks still better in terms of performance than this one here

I think I'm gonna stick with my MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch with the vivid brightness application

lol! These designs require processor efficiency (for cooler running & decent battery life) that Intel still can’t deliver & a level of build quality & reliability that has evaded Dell for many years now. In a parallel universe these are the XPS machines of our dreams. The woes of the first unwary buyers in a few months’ time will be all too predictable.

The XPS14 can be ordered with up to 64GB, the XPS16 is configurable with 32GB max. I hope they fix that.

Genuinely excited for the XPS 14, it's what I've been wanting for years :D

Took sometime to move to 120hz. Already moved to a m16 zepherus 240hz from 9520. Nice laptop but the cooling solution bugged me the most.

Thanks, I hate it.

From a current Dell XPS 15 9530 (the old one, which I still use it until today) user.
