Used to do, Be used to doing and Get used to doing

'Used to' - we use this structure to talk about past habits in English, and then we follow it with a verb. (used to do)
But we can also follow it with a noun, and then it means 'accustomed to'. (be used to something)
Similarly we can say 'get used to' and that to means growing or becoming accustomed to something.
Notice we say we are used to 'something'. That 'something' is a noun. If you want to put a verb there, you'll need to use a gerund - so a noun form of a verb. (be/get used to doing something)

Thank you!!! It's the only video I found with sketches rather than just the teacher explaining the grammar point.

I love following along and giving other examples of my experience.
Example for this: I’m used to cold weather.
I’m getting used to waking up early

The best explanation of "used to" I have ever heard! Thank you for it.
I’m used to the fact that people who use word 'used to' in wrong way are usually certain about it's meaning :)

HI Vicki, I love your videos. Another useful one would be if / when - you'll probably come up with another wonderful video for that - if you haven't done so yet!
Keep up the good work, Joan in Munich

Oh god...I think I made many mistakes before watching this video. I thought "to" is always followed by an original form of a verb or noun, but rarely think of gerund..

I will be getting used to it. Thanks a lot.

Hi, Viki,
Hope you and your family are all well in this difficult time.
When I watched this video today, I came up with some questions, How to form sentences in a nagtive way by using be used to doing and used to do
For example: I'm used to drinking tea in the morning - negative sentence: I'm not used to drinking tea in the morning, right ?
I used to drink coffee in the morning - what's the negative sentence of this one, /how to form a negative sentence of this one??
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best Regards
Annie
