How to Update Rocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool on Original Xbox

The Xbox Softmodding Tool from Rocky5 has been the recommended standard for original Xbox softmods for several years now, with many people softmodding their consoles with it and then not touching the softmod itself after initial setup. While this can work for most people, others might see new features that Rocky5 has implemented and want to update their softmod without uninstalling and redoing the entire installation.

This tutorial will walkthrough the process of obtaining the latest Quick Update package, transferring it to the console over FTP, and launching it to update the existing Xbox Softmodding Tool installation. Do keep in mind this is exclusively for Xbox Softmodding Tool modified consoles, not console running other softmods such as SID5!

Sometimes my modded Xbox is completely powered off with power cable disconnected for months/years, and when turning on it gets flashing ring of death and the "your Xbox needs a service" screen of death. Powering off/on does nothing, and yes clock battery is long removed. The trick is to leave the power connected for a few hours without turning the Xbox on.

Thank you sir! Just the info I needed to update my old softmod via network to the hard drive. So many other videos only show how to do this with a Disc but my DVD drive is dead.

I had a really old softmod on my box, and before getting my XboxHDMI setup (and later Stellar) I upgraded from that old softmod to Rocky5's and it is really feature packed! I really liked being able to set up custom dashboard shortcuts based on button inputs, I do miss that feature now.
On my older softmod, I had customized the boot locations in the BFM bios, and had a different bios load when powered on with eject, to land in UnleashX in the event of an XBMC issue. That was much easier on Rocky5's.

Since I updated my skin always reverts to the grey one instead of the default blue one. Anyone knows how to fix?

Edit: fixed it by spamming A couple of times and holding A a while while selecting the skin. Skin is sticking through reboots now. Source: Console mod wiki.

I didn't realize this had an update! Sweet! Also can anyone tell me how to rip audio CDs to a Rocky5 Softmodded OG XBOX? I've collected more CDs over time ever since I first softmodded my XBOX and I can't figure it out (unless I'm missing something LeL). A video on that would be really useful!

Really nice. I'll definitely get around to it. The only thing is that I tried expanding the 2TB space, but I somehow managed to clear all the games I installed on it and now the system shows no storage space. Anybody have any suggestions of what I can do to get it back and expand the storage in addition?

slightly off topic... after getting annoyed with the awkwardness of 80 wire cables i have modded the cable setup to allow 40 pin wires to work on the big SATA HDD, works with so far tested latest Cerbios. (much less clutter)I am waiting for the final board to complete the final part. seems to work on all the "ali express" Sata adapters. a little more testing is required but so far all good

Thanks for this video and your old one too. I think I'm on an ancient version of UnleashX because I am completely unknowledgable on Xbox. I know so much about Nintendo and PlayStation homebrew, but almost nothing about Xbox. My Xbox custom dashboard resets the DNS every time it launches or boots a game, so I can't use Insignia. I'm gonna try these two tutorials to see if I can get a working Insignia on a custom dashboard and not the MS dashboard!

Hey so I did all this and the extras disc loads up as a hardmod extras disc and then when it’s loading it says it’s a soft mod version, but I’d doesn’t have the factory reset button and it doesn’t download the dash to applications. I’ve tried for over 5 hours to fix it and think it’s unfixable. Is there any way I can factory reset the rocky5 softmod without the extras disc as mine will not work. Both are updated to the most recent version too. Thank you 😔

Hey so I downloaded an ftp app on my phone to transfer files and transferred the extracted folder on to the E drive but one it was finished my xbox when black and I can't seem to figure out how to fix it, any way to help me get it back up and running?

I bought a modded og xbox and I feel like there are three different OS's on it and the interfaces are not too intuitive. Hopefully i can get arpund to seeing if they have updates and can fix my issues.

The Xbox is giving me an error. It says "Xbox soft modding tool not installed" which it is. I will have to relook the old videos. I'm on installer v1.2.1
