Railway Mutton Curry | Dan Toombs The Curry Guy

Railway Mutton Curry originated in the days of the Raj when it was served on trains. The story goes that the heat was toned down for Brits travelling on the railway. Railway mutton curry is seriously tasty and it also includes potatoes.
This video is the first of three where I'm collaborating with The Curry Guy, Dan Toombs. Dan is a Californian who has lived in North Yorkshire for the last 20 years. He has a serious passion for Indian food, and particularly the British Indian Restaurant style of cooking. He has published 3 cookbooks, and 2 more are scheduled for the next year.
Dan's books on Amazon (UK affiliate links - sorry, Amazon won't let me have a US store!):

Very good and informative. I totally love the way you picked up the pan of mutton and peered in, announcing “there’s bones in”

I always thought Dan was a passionate American with a clue about good food. That’s a nice treat for us curry lovers.

Wonderful. Another unique curry. Ive tasted curries in many places&continents except Antartica. Its fascinating how regional influences & regional ingredients influence types of curry. TYVM. I’ll have started the rice cooker before hand, another regional variation.

This is impressive, thank you! I can make it as spicy as I like, so I get to eat and the children can go hungry...

Good video Keef. Shame you burnt the Naan. I have the same problem you used to have with getting some of the ingredients here in Granada, Spain.

Kashmir chillies are very hot. Nice video. Was your hair red before it became white?

Hi Keef, what a treat it was to see Dan Toombs aka The Curry Guy on your You Tube Channel. I'm a big fan of Dans and just bought one of his books for my son who also loves to cook curries. I have travelled all over India and Sri Lanka in recent years enjoying local curries and collecting a few spices to take home. I follow Dan on his channel and I'm teaching myself how to cook BIR style curries as well. I've haven't tried a Railway Mutton Curry yet, but I'll give in a go soon. I have an order for a batch of Keef's Pork Pies that I have to bake for family and friends for Christmas, so I must get cracking on that next week. Keep up the good work you guys.

Oh nice! I bought the veggie book after you mentioned the Curry Guy books in a previous video. I think it was a chickpea curry you did then. Loving the recipes I tried so far, I think Dum Aloo might be my favourite. Deep-frying whole entire potatoes is a bit of a chore, but it's worth it. 🤤

Looks fantastic! Also looks like you cooked down the broth to thicken it a bit. :)
