Right now here in Brazil there is a lobby war between the US government and Huawei for the 5G market. But here is the thing, it seems like every now and then we find a new backdoor in Cisco routers, I mean, if I'm getting spied anyway I might as well pay less for it.

In Chinese "innovation" means "industrial theft"

I can appreciate that Hwawei may feel unfairly attacked but that is an unfortunate consequence of starting a business in a totalitarian society. You can say anything you want about how you are independent from your government but it would be foolish to believe you. If you control the hardware then there are no defenses against malicious code embedded in the hardware or firmware, especially when dealing with proprietary hardware that cannot be independently verified to be free from back-doors and malicious code. Each power would be wise to stick to using their own countries resources to manufacture hardware and should jealously guard their technology from theft by competing powers. If you want collaboration and an open global market then the hardware and software needs to be open and independently verifiable.

Funny.. I am writing this message on my Huawei Matepad Pro without GMS. I am running YouTube Vanced. Fantastic app without ads and can run in the background when app is closed. I also have Facebook and twitter. Oh. somehow, Google Maps works but you just can't sign in. Which might be better for google won't be tracking my whereabout.. :)

Why you don't cover HMS? Their solution to replace GMS, their contract with German TomTom mapping Apps, their investment in Indian app develooers & the increased number of App developers that optimize their Apps with HMS, their offer for a lower percentage of Apps revinue, and their agreement with other Chinese phones' makers to unify their App stores in App sumbition process?

Huawei is going to expand in China and ignore the rest of the world for the most part. China is a big enough market for Huawei to advance technology in China. Then there will be 6G which is already being tested. If you go to the US and China, you will notice the difference in how the regular man on the street uses technology. Chinese retail in the villages have pretty advanced system and there is also Alipay which has eliminated cash helped collect tax and enabled a lot of e-commerce in China. There is more about this but I think this should be left for Trump to see the surprise (if he lives long enough).

Huawei phones are just flooding the southamerican country I reside in. They are by far cheaper than Samsung and seemingly offer more hardware for the money (like an way higher resolution of camera, etc). But sellers warn customers of Huawei since they are not as a good quality than Samsung and have software issues. Remarkable funktioning issues they say like stuttering even with way more RAM, WiFi issues and fail suddenly. Seems they are not long lasting.
In previous years I didnt see Huawei products over here but 2020 is just full of them. Those Huawei phones may be as well counterfeit products since thats a well liked trade here.

I cannot say for certain if Huawei works for the Chinese government. But I know that the Chinese government itself has banned numerous foreign companies from entering China or working with the Chinese companies for one reason or another before. So they don’t really have a leg to stand on this issue.
