I saw that this video went viral on twitter, and a lot of people assumed that this era is long gone. I wish people knew how much we can benefit the industry even now with blu ray and 4k.

4k UHD, Affordable OLED and the outrageous price of streaming with reliable internet caused the doubling of NEW physical media sales last year. And as someone who works in a second hand store, second hand Blu ray sales have gone way up last year and a half also. Physical media will never die, just like vinyl coming back etc.

Not even kidding. At dinner tonight, my cousin was talking about how she didn't have internet because she just moved into a new place and she wasn't able to watch anything on the streaming platforms that she uses without internet. My mom says "somebody should invent something to where you can watch stuff offline". I said "They did. DVD, VHS, Blu-ray, all that stuff." And my cousin said "nobody uses that stuff anymore", and I said "I do". Not so much VHS because I don't have a VCR but definitely discs.

So Digital streaming and digital sales aren’t taking up the slack that DVD lost. After years of the digital dummies praising the coming death of disc I can finally say I told you so. None of these platforms were ever forthcoming regarding sales of big titles or how much revenue they earned.

I remember when DVD was getting big seeing news how many more millions DVD releases would generate for titles. Some titles actually got sequels greenlit based on DVD sales like the first Austin Powers that did so so at the Box Office but the DVD and VHS did huge numbers.

I find myself buying more classic 4Ks and Blus since the quality of films from the studio system has severely declined in the last decade.

Streaming is crap. I hate it. There’s no benefit to it other than “convenience”. It took away the awesome interactions at Blockbuster. Nobody wants to get up from their asses anymore.

Its killing creativity for quantity to drive streaming sales to say “hey look we got more new stuff compared to the competition”. There’s definitely still great movies/directors but they’re being drowned out by over saturated mediocre crap.

Great movies are becoming gems. It took the spotlight away completely. I have fewer conversations about well deserved movies now because they just fall under the radar completely.

Apart from me i dont know anyone who owns a player. I just find it crazy that most people just simply dont care. I never thought we would live in a world where buying movies on a disc would be a niche thing. Its depressing.

With streaming they are just focusing on quantity and not quality. They don't care if the movie is bad as long as the sub counts stay stable.
