I've been using the Niche Zero for about 6 months. Recently, I received their new disk as well. I don't think there's a comparable machine on the market for single dosing. Especially for the price. The NZ is cleverly designed and beautifully constructed. It's very easy to use, to calibrate, and to clean. I think it's filling a huge hole in the prosumer market, for those of us who just make a few coffee drinks per day, and don't want beans to be sitting in a hopper, getting stale. I understand that for people looking for their quick coffee fix, this may not be the grinder of choice. But for me, some of the things that you mention, like the grinding taking a bit long, are nonissues. Frankly, if I were unhappy about the grinding taking, say, 20 seconds instead of 10 seconds, I'd be thinking that I should perhaps take up meditation and learn to chill.

As a Home Barista who own a Mazzer Kony the only downside about kony is the retention. I think the nice zero is the perfect grinder for every home barista with its kony like grind quality but with almost zero retention. If you don't mind hand grinding the pharos tastes better than kony btw.

Thanks for the review. The Niche is on my short list. Don't agree at all with the negative critique about the sound quality of the video.

Great review, especially the details on who would like the grinder. We are in the process of upgrading our home equipment and process after 15 years of old school espresso making. We have a plumbed in La Spaziale Vivaldi S1 V1 (that will be replaced with an LMLM in a week or two), a Baratza Vario, and a Super Jolly with the doser. We currently have half caf in the Vario and regular in the SJ, but we also like pour overs. At this stage, there is no easy way to switch grinds or beans without wasting a lot of coffee and time. We have also started weighing and timing grams in and out, which is difficult and often very wasteful on both grinders (though worse on the SJ, because it retains way too much and the doser throws ground coffee everywhere. After watching all of these reviews, we preordered a Niche Zero and plan to sell the other two grinders. Yes, weighing and doing single dose grinding takes longer, but after 15 years of making espresso and pour overs I don't see any other way to really get great coffee. I suppose if you buy stale beans or preground beans at the supermarket, it won't matter anyway. But if you are going to pay $15 for 12 ozs of freshly roasted beans, I suspect the Niche Zero will pay for itself in short order. The only question we have is whether it is best to try to get by with one or two Niche Zeros just to avoid noting and returning to the settings for each type of coffee.

I've had my Niche for about 4 months now. I keep my beans in an Airscape container and I have learnt that it is far easier to weight the beans in a wider container, (plastic cup), rather than in the Niche cup. It's also far quicker to get the beans from the Airscape than fiddle about pouring them out if the bag. You don't spill as many beans. Also agree with Jackie's comments.

Currently here in Australia, the price is around $1700 AUD if you get it at Alternative Brewing or any Australian dealers. I got mine from their official website. Had the option to select the Australian version and came up to £500 for the actual grinder + £100 for shipping which is approximately just under $1100 AUD.

My main question is, is it a good grinder for pour over (v60, chemex or aeropress...even the coarsest french press) ? if yes, how does it compare to Encore ?

Hey, any thoughts on the Baratza Sette 30? I’m thinking on buying one since I think it’s one of the best grinders for the budget. Although I’m concerned about the longevity of the grinder.. any insights or experiences with the Baratza series? Thank you.

I'm a French press guy. How do you feel this will work for a FP or course grind?

Joel, Would you prefer the Niche Zero or Kafatek Monolith Flat Max?

I noticed you edited out/past distribution and tamp... thoughts on using a leveling and/or distribution tool with the niche? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'm running out of bench space so quickly already.

I've read quite of few reviews of this grinder. It seems very nice for the price point but I've read that the internal gear mechanisms are made from plastic? Is this true?
