The Bureau of Engraving and Printing took 60 Minutes inside its Texas facility to learn how the U.S. dollar is produced from concept to completion.

"60 Minutes" is the most successful television broadcast in history. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 and is still a hit, over 50 seasons later, regularly making Nielsen's Top 10.

I've been to a similar top secured printing facility and at the same time, it was fascinating and a bit of an anti-climax.

It's fascinating because your mind understands how important the work that takes place there is, you see even the people who work there are compartmentalised, and of course all the massive security measures which surround the facility. And even that is usually very anonymous, inconspicuous-looking.

The anti-climax comes from realising that this is just a factory. Sure, it produces something we ascribe value, importance and potential for abuse but at the end of the day, it holds no value in itself, unlike for instance gold, diamonds or other precious metals. The people who work there just go about their business like they were tapping beer into bottles or some other mundane task. They chat, they laugh, they go to lunch, have a coffee etc.

But I'm still happy I got that opportunity.

I went to the facility at DC. And the most interesting part to me was. After it all finally gets cut and packed on pallets etc: the crazy part is it gets distributed on trucks, planes etc to its final destinations… and it’s amazing that there’s I don’t think ever been an inside job on that. I mean there could be a truck on the road that has like 50 million dollars on it lol 😆 or sitting under a commercial flight in storage. How they can keep that a secret 🤫 is pretty amazing in itself. I mean the truck driver that picks it up must know what he’s doing… that would be a tempt of fate. They must have dedicated drivers and flights and they must pay those people huge amounts behind closed doors to keep the info secret and to themselves to keep the ball rolling.
