"The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" refers to an unidentified track recorded from a German radio station in the 1980s, which remained unknown for 17 years despite extensive online efforts to discover its origins. The mystery began in 2007 when a user named "bluuue" uploaded a short excerpt of the song. Over the years, various internet communities, including Reddit and YouTube, became involved in the search, with key figures like YouTuber Gabriel Vieira and Reddit users such as "johnnymetoo" contributing to the investigation. Despite numerous leads and theories, the song's identity remained elusive until November 4th, 2024, when Redditor "marijn1412" uncovered that the song was "Subways of Your Mind" by the German band FEX. This discovery came after researching German newspaper archives and contacting a former band member, Michael Hädrich, effectively concluding one of the internet's longest-running musical mysteries.

Funny how the solution sometimes is found through the employment of means typically inept at bringing good results. You'd think that contacting leads at radio stations, digging through archiving records or deducing titles based on lyrics (in a systematized spreadsheet) would have been way more efficient, but this time it was the local press saving history from obscurity!

Another clarification - Lydia was Anton Riedel/bluuue, not the sister of him. Her brother Darius is the one who recorded the song off the radio, but she did all the online posting trying to identify it for him.

I have a song like that. Its only named '360' on my 13+ year old playlist. Downloaded off of limewire during its hayday. Its not english and yet it doesnt sound like any other particular language other than vaguely western european. I've ran it through a few song identifying apps and came up blank. I should hunt more

Can someone tell me how it got that traction? Is it because the song was liked by a lot of people?

Just a reminder that the mods of the lost song subreddits + major lostwave YouTuber Q / Ziro still thinks it isn't solved because the original demo isn't in high quality. Absolute fools.

The band's name is "Fex", it's just stylized as "FEX" in capital letters, but it's pronounced as a (possibly made-up) word. Hädrich confirmed that in several interviews he gave over the past week. Also, "NDR" is at one point mispronounced "NDP". Also, there's a lot of confusing reporting regarding who "Anton Riedel" and "bluuue" exactly was - most sources say it was Lydia herself, not her brother, who originally uploaded the song snippet for the purpose of identification. I don't think Darius ever actively engaged with the community, Lydia always spoke on his behalf.
