Just a brief first video of my home server rack I show everything in the rack and give a quick explanation of what it does and how its hooked up. This rack houses all dell poweredge servers with the exception of the supermicro server for the firewall.

You have a lot of knowledge and I hope you rewarded with a lot of money from your home website. You spent a lot of cash on equipment and educating yourself and I hope it pays off for you in terms of dollars.

I really like videos where people take there network as seriously as you do. A lot of public wifi's that I often use have just a wifi router and dozens of people connect of it every day. I do not even feel secure using such a network and I often port scan it to see the various computers. When I sit down for coffee it often takes an hour or so because I scan the network before.

Haha, load balancing two servers on a 1mbps uplink. Classic. I also love the fact that the home is wired with fiber, but the fiber runs into a 100mbps switch.

I like that you have cable tied it all down - nice build!

Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have had 5 servers for about a year now and could never really find a place to run them so i finally bought this rack on craigslist and it was well worth every penny. They are pretty expensive though mine was $300. I always wanted to buy more servers instead of the rack but after a while it go to be a bit much to manage without one. I will keep more videos coming!

Nice setup. Personally I went for the Hyper V virtual  route and currently I am using a single Poweredge R905 as my primary server and for any experimental projects that require a second physical machine I just my my new PC build with a second server OS. The server is a quad quard core (4 quad core CPUs) with 128GB of ram and I got that for under £400.

Finally, everyone please stop hating saying he doesn't need it or he's wasting power etc. I'm not saying he needs all that equipment however it's still all good stuff to have, it's great to learn with, it's all ready for higher demand and a setup like that would be super easy to expand.

Thanks. This is the first video of this kind i have found on youtube that gave me a good insight into what equipment can be found on a rack.

Virtualization is a good word here - plus half of the kit you've shown, apart from noisy, doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot, network lights are hardly moving.

I put my racks in the garage so I can vent heat out or reverse the fans and warm the house in the winter with them.  Also put them in the garage for noise.

Very cool. You might think about investing in a larger UPS to support all of your equipment. It's good that you have surge protection, but sudden loss of power can corrupt files/damage your equipment just the same. Excellent work, especially for someone so young!

Very nice setup! Loved to tinker with stuff like that myself until I moved into my own place and had to pay the electric bills myself.
Kudos!

Thank you very much for your support! I am huge on cable management to me its what makes it all look good. I am very fortunate to have the equipment I have. Most people dont have the privilage to own and work with this equipment. Its one thing to go to college or have it at your job but totally different when you own it. You can do whatever you want with it and learn so much more. This is why i try to make educational videos with this equipment. Grab the xeon they are really nice for servers.

Haters gonna hate, forget all the detractors.  Looks very professional, minus the zip tied fiber.  I am sure you learned a lot.  Keep it up and you will find your self a great career ahead of you should you choose to pursue it.
