Instructions; (If youre not a visual learner)
Pretend theres a 1 before the letters without a number so x would become 1x
Subtract the simultaneous equations
3x + (1)y = 16
(1)x + (1)y = 10

2x = 6
Divide the number of x by 2, x = 3 as its two times x, and youre only trying to find x.
therefore y = 7 as x + y = 10 and its basic number bonds

your answer would be x = 3 and y= 7

to prove this, just go through the question again but with your answers
3 x 3 = 9 + 7 = 16

3 + 7 = 10

Here's the **basic formula**
brackets reference a random number unless if theres a number already in them and an asterisk represents an answer
()x + (1)y = *
(1)x + (1)y = *

()* = ()
() divided by () = * x = * and therefore y = *

Note: This is a formula, not an answer for anything.

Hello there,
Thank you you so much for your videos! They are very helpful! Could you please explain me how do you decide to subtract or add equation? I keep watching the video and still don’t understand.

I wish this video had practice questions at the end to reinforce the knowledge we learnt! :( But, anyways, Thanks for the video Mr Hegarty - it's really useful! :)

Thanks for the video. I would like to know if the exam paper will ask us to solve the equations in a particular method? (Subsitution, graphically and so on...) Thanks

you need to explain why you're doing what you're doing more because you're explaining it how you understand it :/
