Space Science with Python - Part 2: Setup with venv

Before we can start working on Space Science topics we need a Python environment to work with. Here, I would like to show you common approach using venv and pip. A virtual environment is a quite fair approach if you only need Python libraries. However, sometimes you need to install "stuff beyond Python" to get things running like Qt or Spark. To prevent random installations on your machine I will show you a more sophisticated approach next time.

There is a lot to do and to learn and I hope you will join the journey. In the meanwhile, if you have questions or ideas, reach out to me via:

So so inspired by this mission of yours, while i am new to programming, i stumbled upon your videos during the 1st half of the CS50 course and I immediately knew what i wanted to do after finishing the course (to the point it became my main motivation). Here i am about 2 months after and i am really excited to learn (and in the future, even teach) all that you're doing here. Im so glad that you didn't give up on this, it is a really valuable resource for us lovers of everything space and computers, keep it up!

Great video, one thing I would recommend is to put your videos all in a playlist so us viewers don’t need to search for the next video if it isn’t recommended to us by YouTube.

Hi Thomas and thank you for all the knowledge you are sharing! I am trying to install SPICE, my python version being 3.8, but it seems Andrew Annex's python wrapper supports only former versions. Do you have a workaround?

I may sound clueless here (and I am), but what environment and/or package is used for simulations for shadows for Black Holes? I've lost touch with Python after not working with it for 5 years, so I need some catching up to do.
