Zach Bryan - Ticking

I’m cutting ties with things that bind my heart to this world
I love you and I’m willing but I cannot keep you girl
Philly by the morning and ohio by the night
The thing about a long rope is you can’t hold on too tight

Wooden floors and coffee cups
Stepped on and all used up
But I reckon that’s what morning are for
And everyone thinks they know me now
In these close minded leave me towns
But I’m too young to even know myself

There’s wheels running down the interstate
Lord I’ll wait another day cuz I ain’t close to you
There’s time ticking on the interstate
And lord I hate that I ain’t close to you

And I’ll my friends have moved away
Some got jobs and some got saved
they talk to me like I am still that kid
The fighting, fiendin Okie son
The restless, reckless, hopeful one
Who once was proud of everything he did

Do you remember 25 long legs and loving time
Seems like 10 lifetimes ago
I’m cutting ties with things that bind my heart to this world
I love you and I’m willing but I really have to go

There’s wheels running down the interstate
Lord I’ll wait another day cuz I ain’t close to you
There’s time ticking on the interstate
I’m fighting fate
And lord I hate that I ain’t close to you

I’m cutting ties with things that bind my heart to this world
I love you and I’m willing but I cannot keep you girl
Wooden floors and coffee cups
Stepped on and all used up
But I reckon that’s what morning are for

12 years, 6 deployments. Lost a lot more brothers then I care to remember. Left the Marines, came out to this world, fucked up everything, lost everything, and took off walking from Ohio back down home to Kentucky during the middle of a Polar Vortex, a pack on my back, my dog, and I took off walking for South Eastern Kentucky to my where I grew up. I hit a night where the sleet and snow wouldnt let me get a fire going and told God "Guess I die here alone in the mountains of WV alone after all the hurt I put into this world then" thought I was going to freeze to death that night, when the sleet and rain stopped, the valley lit up and the most beautiful sight I had ever seen the moon shining down shining off the ice covered trees like Christmas lights all over. Part of me did die that night, that hate, sadness, the confusion and the first time since before my first deployment, I felt peace again. I felt I was finally home, and I made it back down home and started over and finally have a peace with most things God and I came to an understanding that night, can't put it into words, but we understand each other better I reckon

My favorite off of the album. Goodness man, I’m playing through the entire album in my living room alone and just having a session.. music heals the soul.

My now ex boyfriend is a huge fan and I remember him talking about being excited to hear Zach’s new album and 4 days later he broke up with me. He was going through a lot with getting into firefighting and his parents. When i heard this song i could feel his pain and understood even more what he was feeling. It’s still sad that he didn’t see me as someone who could support him in his journey and instead just one more thing that he was holding onto when all he needed was to be weightless to fight his battles. I love him and im sad, but also relieved that I’m not a weight anymore. All i want is his happiness. Fly high my angel ❤

I swear when I hear Zach Bryan sing it’s like watching a picture getting painted in front of you. He paints the picture. I say this shit with every ounce of my heart and I mean this shit. Zach Bryan is the best songwriter ever already.

Dude just dropped 16 bangers into a single album. Most artists can't even rub 2 decent songs together on an album. Crazy how good Zac Bryan is..

(yes, i'm counting that poem!)

“Thing about a long rope is you can’t hold on too tight” Took me 1yr to realize… the longer the rope gets the heavier it gets, the more weighed down each inch. Starts getting tough to pull the slack in enough. Don’t even know if Zach meant it that way… probably; but man this song is deep. Starts hitting different now knowing that and how your ex could be weighing you down and the longer rope you give them or more leeway the more your actually weighing everything down. Mind blowing inner consciousness

Throughout my life, I have had many ups and downs and have gone through many things unimaginable for a teenager. Throughout those difficult times I’ve listened, and learned many of zachs music on guitar, and it has brought me much peace. I have been a fan since heading south came out and I’m so glad to see his grow and get bigger each day. His music has spoken so much to me and I can’t thank him enough. My dream is to go see him live and when he comes back to alberta, I’ll be there. Thank you Zach. ❤

This is the first song of yours I heard and I fell in love with your writing. I've had a lot of loss in my life and I feel you've been there. The music is deep, serene and touches a spot people just can't see. I can listen to this song over and over again!
