Some people who are lonely go to the store every day simply to see and interact with other human beings. Does not save money, but saves mental health.

My hack: If you chose to not do grocery pick up, you can still load your online cart and use it as a grocery list so you know exactly how much it will be at register. If you add extra items while in the store add them to your list and let the cart tally the price for you.

I make homemade macaroni and cheese at the beginning of the month and I make more than my husband and I can eat. I put the leftovers in the freezer and I have another meal for later in the month. When I started meal planning it was not to save money. It was because I was sick and tired of looking in the refrigerator every night wondering what I was going to make for dinner. But I have foumd we have saved $ on groceries.

To me the way to cut in groceries is not going to the store... 😂. Whenever I go, there is always some things I "need" that blow my budget. I go once a week for fresh produce and trying to have 1 trip to sam's club per month and doing groceries curbside pick up and delivery.

I keep a running tab while grocery shopping, and ALWAYS round up! My local store also has Senior Day (Tuesdays and Thursdays) where those over I think it’s 65 get a 5% discount. I had added mine to be $110, but at checkout it was $96.72! Yea for me!!

Something I noticed yesterday about sale prices ... the clearance stickers were more expensive than the sale price on the shelf. At our store, those clearance stickers are in 2 parts, one is an updated UPC code that goes directly over the original. So, had I not been paying attention, I would have paid MORE for an expiring clearance item than an in-date sale item when I checked out.

I’ve always been a big proponent of “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” as far as eating healthier now to possibly help stave off problems down the road 🥰

One thing I have done is to develop a roster of inexpensive recipes that are easy and that my family loves. Over time, we have gathered a list of over 40 recipes that really work for us, and having this list posted all the time helps me to avoid getting takep-out meals more often than we have planned to. Planning to have leftovers is a tried and true way to make life easier in the kitchen --- and if you have recipes everyone loves, nobody minds having the same thing more than once.

Yes I agree on shrinkflation. This week I treated myself to Pepperidge Farms cookies. I noticed the weight was less. I saw the contents was less. But the quality was also bad. The cookies were dry. Next time I will just make my own. Have all the ingredients anyway.

If there's a convenience food you really like, try going online and look for recipes that are homemade versions. I have found great rice and pasta recipes my family loves. There are a couple of benefits. It's always cheaper. And you have cut out all the additives and chemicals that are in the packaged versions.

I always check the receipt before leaving the store, sometimes the store charges more than the price on the shelf.

Jennifer after I had been hospitalised for four months and came home struggling to rehabilitate after cardiac surgery, I find it easier to meal plan with my brother Williams help, check fridge freezer and larder contents and then let William also help with shopping and cooking! You would not believe the difference we have made to our budgeting skills by watching you and sharing the tasks. It has become so much more fun and less stressful for me and we eat very well too! love Vera in Northern Ireland ❤

I now only buy everyday spices, that i know I'll use, & just substitute one of these instead of running out to buy a spice. I also grow herbs in pots, chives (sub onion), rocket (cut & come again) oregano, basil, out side my kitchen door. Bloody fantastic 🎉

I use Walmart's grocery pick up. It is convenient and saves me time and money. I have arthritis in my hands so grocery shopping has become very challenging for me. (Even now, I'm using the microphone on my phone to type this comment.) I also save money by not going into the store. For me as it is a great blessing, and the attendants are always super nice. 😊

Easier said than done to shop alone, here is my tip to shop with kids when they were younger:
They had their own shopping list. I used pictures.
For every section of the store they had to find something. Like a banana in the produce section, some milk in dairy, etc.
They know the brands you have at home, so they will not take something else (they can’t read, “milk” to them it is the milk you always have)
This does two things; it gives you time to think and get the things you need and it let’s the kids participate. They feel accomplished and “grown up” for helping plus they get to put stuff in the cart.
And they are not familiar with where things are, so for them it takes more time to find the thing they need.
It can also be done verbally. Ask them to find something in each section and let them be busy with their task for a few minutes.
I had fun doing groceries with my kids this way. They seriously never put anything in the cart that I didn’t want them to. They of course would ask for things and it would either be a yes or a no. No tantrums, no fuss.
And at home they even helped with putting stuff away 🙂

I just cooked tonight a 2.5 lbs of tri-tip for my adult son with Quinoa and Brussels Sprouts. We eat today together, and he has leftovers for 3 more days of dinner.

My biggest thing was actually decreasing my portions. I know not a lot of people would like this advice but it has helped a lot. Not only do I save money but I can also buy healthier options that are a little pricier but would last awhile because I don’t eat big portions like I used to.

My second, I drink mostly water and coffee on occasion. We do indulge in orange juice at times but only for Sunday breakfast. For a family of five we were easily spending almost $100 a month on beverages which was ridiculous.
