What a Tangled Web We Weave

If the truth is on your side, why be deceptive? God's reason for permitting the abundance of evil in the world is woefully insufficient. William Lane Craig claims that it is sufficient, but I think he's too self-centered to realize the implications of God's ultimate goal for humanity...well, God's goal according to the bible, anyway.

This is one of your best videos, you're opening my eyes in so many ways. Admittedly I am a Christian but I've always had doubts and your videos are helping me to comebto my own realization and not that of an ancient form of indoctrination.

I think the worst argument a christian has used was "god is all good, harming others is evil, so he won't harm those who do evil. God is good."

An omniscient God knows exactly who's gonna do what... What's the point of us being here, playing this pointless game? Just send the people to heaven or hell and let's get it over with. God is apparently not omnientertained. Someone buy him a 3DS or something.

How is 'God works in mysterious ways' in any observable sense different from 'shit happens?'

You've summarized the four years of philosophical studies that lead me to atheism in nine minutes! Love it!

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant ! The harder theists try to substantiate God and free will, the deeper the hole they dig for themselves. Now all we need is for them to jump into the hole and let the problem solve itself.

This channel was pivotal in my transition from being a young and eager Christian to losing faith in all religion 7 years ago. Much has happened since then, but for someone like me who grew up 100% convinced that the Christian teachings were true, with no doubt in my mind until my 20s, the desperate feeling of wanting a God to guide you and give you purpose never goes away. There is a sort of permanent nihilism that takes hold upon believing that there is no God, no soul, and no afterlife. As a way of coping, I have not given up my belief that there is some sort of afterlife and greater force, and that our actions in this life affect the next. I think my physiological survival depends on it. I may very well be dead wrong, but a belief is a hard nut to crack. And removing belief without an adequate belief to replace it exposes you to the abyss in a way that may not have you coming out the other side ok.

I'm not a student of philosophy, but I think about these things often. On the topic of evil/sin, could it be seen as anything that does not manifest the ideal outcome in the eyes of the creator? Meaning that without a creator, such evil would not exist because it's subjective. As a common example, extramarital sex isn't evil in my eyes, but it may distract a person from becoming the best version of themselves that they can be. "Best" here being the culmination of the many values and virtues people in civilization generally hold. And so by that standard, almost everything we do would be considered evil, but at varying points among a spectrum from most harmful to least harmful.

@oonsoonsaoons, thank you. I'll definitely do that. You're right. I've seen different approaches work, and this way definitely has its place.

@TogetherForPeace, on establishing the probability of a morally sufficient reason, Craig says it's hopeless to speculate. In the second part, however, he inadvertently asserted the morally sufficient reason by describing God's plan. God's plan is the ultimate reason for it all. I clearly show how that plan is not morally sufficient because it results in more harm than good.

It's a shame people of your intellect don't have a broader viewing base. If you were on television i think the slow conversion of christians to athiests would start, as you present it in such a way that it would leave the religious we nothing to say or defend themselves with, which in turn starts the self doubt phase which pretty much = end game. Needless to say i enjoyed the video

Is it just me, or does it take Craig a thousand times more words to express an idea than necessary?
