We finally saw it all come together—the last metal panels locked into place, the roof of our home nearly complete with only the ridge cap left to install.  Were now turning our attention to the next big challenge… correcting the addition’s design flaw. This problem is going to delay things as we are basically starting over- Again!

Here's a tip...get some metal plates about 4x4 inch about 3/8 thick put them down over your water line and bury it so next time you can use a metal detector to locate your line.

The last time that I was absolutely sure of the location of a water line, I drilled a post hole right through the rural water line. Thankfully, the maintenance guy for the rural water company lived just up the road and fixed it within an hour. Y'all are doing an amazing job.

For future reference, I'd draw a dimensioned map showing EXACTLY where that water line splice is located.

Hope this helps someone: anything I dig trenches for, in an out of town locale, when I backfill the trench I only cover the pipe/lines with 2-3 inches at first. Then I cut plastic gtid fencing to trench width and lay it down im the trench. Then I finish backfilling to grade. The fencing is that plastic fence in 3-4' tall rolls. Known as "construction femce, snow fence, trash fence, and probably more names. Its cheap, and is easy to cut and handle. It warns you when you are digging in the future that you are very near previous lines and to start hand digging. 😅.

$20 in yellow warning tape is it all it would take.

Aren’t you supposed to put a plastic warning tape above buried lines? I think we also used sand surrounding the pipes to visually differentiate the soli.

Now in England when you put down Electric Gas water so so much distance away from the pipes we put down a tape of salts warning you it's there so if you're digging you hit the tape before you hit the pipe that way no accidents make your life so much more simple
