At that point, if the engine is only a generator, why not locate it further aft for better CG control?

Very cool development. Bu at the same time very complex. Aviation is about safety and that comes with simplicity and that equals to reliability.
A Rotax is complex, a 914 even more and now we have a 914 plus generator plus electric motor plus electric controls...

gas generator + multiple electric rotors with 2 blade props has pretty good implications for improving aircraft efficiency, using multiple 2 blade props you can eliminate interference drag of 3+ blades, and placing the blades on the wings allows for improving lift under reduced wing area. having multiple electric rotors distributing the power of 1 or 2 generators also can help reduce ground clearance requirements of high performance planes that otherwise demand more and longer blades.
