VoltAero: Developing the Cassio hybrid-electric aircraft

VoltAero has achieved multiple milestones as the company develops its Cassio hybrid-electric aircraft. In a de-risking approach to the development, VoltAero is using a testbed aircraft and an “Iron Bird” ground-based integration rig to validate Cassio’s combination of electric motors and an internal combustion engine in a “push-pull” propulsion configuration.

Fascinating re-use of the C-377 airframe. Good luck !

An interesting overall project, but note that the video contains a range of configurations with and without electric motors & propellors so must be showing some aerodynamic handling trials without electric propulsion. It's not clear whether the front tractor motor or the smooth nose-cone configuration is being flown in which sequence.
I would be interesting to have an indication of the performance (speed/range) and what the batteries do to the payload - indeed where are they?
One of the features of the Cessna 377 Skymaster is the symmetric thrust of the centre-line engines - a significant engine failure safety feature. This feature would be lost in an electric or hybrid variant with conventional wing-mounted motors.

If only the coolness of your video could even approach the coolness of your aircraft.

Dommage qu'on n'entende pas le vrai bruit au décollage ....!
