Why in the world will you not feel the same about college sports if kids get paid? That’s dumb.

Honestly, each sport needs its own governing body and rules. Schools can choose their membership as well as which sports to keep or not

Fascinating discussion! They SHOULD break away! The NCAA is a joke!

Treating college athletics like professional sports would completely ruin the uniqueness of college football. It would be a disaster.

This is an interesting idea but none of the important questions were asked. What would happen to the non-power 5 schools programs? How many kids from those schools who usually are going for the degree would no longer have scholarships? How would this affect other sports? While yes, I agree that the NCAA isn’t the best, I also think this idea only helps a small percentage of D1 athletes

Would other sports also be separate from NCAA? How would it affect basketball, track, hockey, soccer, and the lesser watched sports that aren't as financially viable as the football programs?

It’ll suck not having some of the smaller schools have the chance to knock off some bigger programs but it’s the right decision for them to leave

While the NCAA needs to go or be heavily overhauled, all this would do is give even more of a stranglehold the Power 5 has over college athletics. The group of five and other minor conferences struggle for relevancy and the Power 5 will typically poach any talent, both coaching and players, that can help themselves or undermine a rising school. How all these other schools would fit into the larger picture is the problem that would need to be resolved.

What’s going to happen when you have students sticking around for 6, 7, 8 years to play football or basketball. Are the universities going to compete with the NFL or NBA for the players?

Only way that would work they would have to all be independent of leagues in one unified league.

TEACH SPORTS ON SCHOOLS. It makes no sense that sports has professional careers and becoming a coach goes through he say she say. There needs to be legitimate avenues into sports. Teach coaching, teach basics of each sports. It would helps people become coaches and players. It makes the sports community better.

I don't think they should pay collage players what needs to happen in that the NFL and NBA and all sports guys go pro at 18. Included NFL.

Yup. No more NCAA. Once basketball and football leaves, it wont have any money.
