It would be awesome if Bill Nye made a guest appearance on this channel. Together they could change the world!

I'm so glad that this comment section isn't full of people saying climate change isn't real.

tbh, if you say you love science but say climate change isn't happening, then i suggest you stop saying you love science because there is overwhelming evidence in the scientific community otherwise.

This is a wonderful video, but there is more to the story. It's not just that the oceans are getting warmer (causing coral bleaching) but they are getting more acidic and this decreases the ability of corals and shell building organisms to build their homes. The pH of seawater is a crucial factor because these organisms need calcium carbonate, CaCO3, in order to survive. Elizabeth Kolbert explains it like so: "Adding carbonic acid to the water complicates their efforts, because it reduces the number of carbonate ions in circulation. Practically, it means shrinking the supply of material available for shell formation.(Imagine trying to build a house when someone keeps stealing your bricks.) Once the carbonate concentration gets pushed low enough, even existing shells begin to dissolve." So what we really need to do is not to produce new types of corals, but to stop emitting extreme amounts of CO2. That is what I thinks anyways...

That's not pollution from smoke stacks. They're cloud factories.

It's on Netflix :)
James Cameron is also in the documentary

You lost me in the intro, Joe. Just because all life can be traced back to the oceans doesn't mean that it's not a coincidence that humans and the Earth's surface have approximately the same percentage of water.

I was getting super sad about this, and you put that twd bit and I lost it. You're great!

I watched a video (wish I could remember what it's called) of people who made Reefs, put them on the bottom of the ocean, and then showed what they looked like a short time later. What a great idea it is! Fish, etc were back living in the areas again :)

I still don't understand why some scientists believe that global warming is not a concern. Is it because they feel that they're not anywhere near the time to panic?

Wasn't able to hear "coral" without thinking "Carl" after that part
