This just shows how consumers were really being gouged. Four digit prices for an expansion card that doesn't serve coffee and throw in a couple of massages per day. Am I the only person who thinks this is still nuts?

How sad that even after a $1000 price slash, it's still absurdly expensive.

3:12 Jay said it was a good time to buy GPUs because they were getting to be around MSRP and sometimes under MSRP. Technically not -wring- wrong, it was the best time since launch to buy these cards.

However where jay crossed the line was by telling his audience they were dumb and "stupid" if they didnt buy right now instead of waiting for 1/2 MSRP or less because we're so late in the GPU cycle they should already be at least 25% off, compounded with the glut of used GPUs it should be around 50-60% off for new cards(especially high end) and up to 90% off for used mining cards

Now Jay is entitled to his own opinion, and personally, i think a contact at EVGA or some other company abused Jay's trust in them, and leaked him some false information about the prices going back up, and the 40 series not launching till, what was it lat 2023? in the hopes that his audience would buy up the cards before these price drops. Not caring that they were burning bridges with Jay and would probably face community backlash towards both Jay, and the leaker's own company.

Edit For all we know the 40 series could be delayed, but that doesnt mean Nvidia just stops manufacturing 30 series cards till the 4000 series comes out. 30 series cards get cheaper to manufacture every day, and they've already put orders in for the cards, just like with the auto industry, when you cancel contracts, you face consequences, this was one of the reasons there were so little cars made from 2020-2023, manufacturers canceled their contracts, that chip and electronics productions went to someone else, and when they came back and said we'd like to sign a new contract, parts manufacturers said tough luck, someone else already bought up all the capacity, and in some cases said 'tough luck, you were our last customer to use these parts, so we decommissioned and replaced all the tooling and production lines to offer new products'

So let me get this straight. Pay $1200 for a last gen card that will be easily surpassed in the next few months by a card that will cost less than $1200? Yeah, I'll wait.

Never could I ever justify dropping more than $800 on a card. Hell, $600 is hard to justify

As someone who hadn't been able to get a modern card until recently (chose not to buy since it's 2 year old tech) I'm more than happy to let them continue to slash prices, it's 2 year old tech and the miners they've been feeding by the pallet load are hopefully banished for a couple of years. GPU's for gamers not for Miners looking for profit.

30 series cards are still WAY overpriced. HOLD THE LINE. That 3090ti will be worth about 700 very soon.

Jay posted a video basically saying "If you don't buy now you are stupid"
that's when i just banished him from my YouTube feed basically

03:04 People are dunking on Jay2Cents because on July 23 he told everyone to BUY NOW (or you are STUPID!) because prices and availability were going to get worse... but they only got better. If you had bought a GPU when he told you to you'd be losing quite a few hundred dollars. He blindly repeated what the board partners (his "sources") wanted to hear which was to incentivize panic buying inspite of consumers interest.

What I think is funny is that ebay prices for the high end cards are all still too high. You can buy a brand new 3090ti from EVGA for 1200 or get a used 3090ti from some rando for 1400? 3080ti's still going for over 1k and 3090's for 1.2k

Ebay peeps are dreaming as the msrp of the retail cards plummet, it's bizarre to see. Like, do you miners really think you can charge more than retail for a used card?? Looks like delusion has gripped all segments of the world haha

I like how Brett and Reese are doing the modern version of letters thru the mail, so wholesome.

Also he got responses from Greg Salazar, and Tech Yes City that said that Jay was wrong in telling his viewers that NOW was the time to buy GPU's, but they certainly called him out about how he shouldn't call his viewers "stupid". He used the term "stupid" quite a few times. I think Jay is detached from his viewers. Jay probably makes a large sum of money from youtube. Not realizing or remember that most of his viewers can barely afford these cards. I had to camp out for 50 hours during a span of a week, straight from work, then straight to microcenter camping out over night until I got mine at a somewhat reasonable, MSRP of $850 for a EVGA FTW3.

Jay basically dropped a vid like a month ago saying “buy now!!” Went as expected 😂

And this is why I've always said: When the prices are ridiculous, just don't buy it unless it's completely necessary.
They shave off the price this much and are still getting huge profits.

They don't set ridiculous prices because the cards are more expensive to make they are simply increasing them generation by generation, getting buyers accustomed to higher prices and then showing the investors profits 3 to 4 times higher than the previous year.

They could have sold those cards for 30% less from the very beginning and would still make billions of dollars in the process.

Jay made two videos. The first one was literally titled "Buy Now." The second one was his attempt to clarify the first. Not sure it helped a whole lot. His premise was that surely, the graphics cards won't go any lower because they were at or a little below MSRP, and it could be months until new cards are available. Well, that's why he's a tech guy and not Nostradamus. To be fair, the middle tier cards, which most of us own, as hanging around MSRP still, and he was/is correct that the 4060(x) won't be around before next year, so those prices aren't dropping.

Guess Jay2shill advice didn't age well, as with any of his advice. Its easy for somebody to tell you to buy something tha they themselves don't actually have to pay.

There is NOTHING that makes sense about graphic cards costing over 1000$. That's my final answer Regis.

Jz was right. Prices are where they are. EVGA did a fire sale because they run out of money and had to lay off 20% of their staff. This sale was only for the weekend. So, I listened to Jz, bought a 3090 on Amazon about 10 days ago, saw this sale last weekend, returned the 3090 to Amazon, bought the 3090Ti directly from EVGA for $100 less than the 3090 on Amazon. Now, the price is up again.

Don't give NV any credit for the price cuts, this is where they should've been priced all along IMHO.

They increased the pricing overnight, it was 1199 last night, now it is 1399...
