Router, Switch or Hub ? Network Devices Explained
Показать описание
This video will go over basic network devices. We will see how they work and what they are used for. Hubs, switches and routers are devices that allow us to create networks and connect those networks to one another. We explain how they work and what their individual differences are :
Hubs are located at Layer 1 of OSI reference mode and were around before switches. A Hubs job is to forward traffic from the source device to all the connected device. Basically, it creates networks.
You could think of a switch as a smarter and an elder brother of Hub. Switch also creates networks. All Devices will connect to the switch and it is the switches job to send the traffic to the correct place. Now unlike a hub, a switch can learn the mac addresses of each port using a Mac Address Table and can also send and receive at the same tine which means no more collisions or delays. Switches works on Layer 2 of OSI reference model.
Routers! Well! the one thing which is actually responsible for internetwork connectivity. Yes! Routers are those devices which connect networks. And works on Layer 3 of OSI reference model. A router connects a LAN to other networks such as the internet.
