The free air cooled motors were coming to and end, but in 1977 and 1978, the TNT s were deigned to offer both free air and fan cooled engine options. Phil Molto shows us a 1978 440 FC TNT and the hood accommodations on those sleds.

I bought a brand new 78 when I was 18 at the dealer I worked at after school and weekends . Think I paid 1800 bucks ! It was a great all round sled . Good on fuel and reliable, it was nice and warm with the big cowl and e we rode a lot of 20- below and colder in northern bc .

Had a tnt 440 fan in the early 90's loved it. Also I saw the moto sonic 250 had one of those also around the same time loved that one too. I remember it had the bump outs in the sides . Still have two motoski zefers need restoring but they bring back great memories

I had a '74 TNT 440. It was my first sled

mark.

I had the '73 Silver Bullet behind it. It was a great machine. Then an '83 Citation for a pair.

I use to ride a TNT 440 40 years ago in Northern Manitoba. Not sure what year it was, just knew it was abused. With a good tuneup this old girl would start in 2 pulls at -40 degrees. I installed an extra large windshield, with the hot air blowing off the engine, I was toasty warm.

I had a buddy with one.
I had a 78 JD Liquifire.
He would get me off the line but I'd go around him on the big end.

Im not sure why they built sleds without a jackshaft, after the f/a sleds had them in 74

I had a '78 440 fanner. Pretty much a horrible sled with nothing but shortcomings and mind you it had about 1000 total original miles on it. Show worthy condition and I have been a vintage sled mechanic for 40 years. Owned around 90 leaf springer sleds of all sorts over the decades.
The '78 TnT is easily one of the 5 worst I have ever owned outta those 90 sleds ! Allways remember, lemons are yellow ! ( from about '73 thru the 80's )
Yamaha kicked their ass from 1970 onwards hands down.

Not very aerodynamic. Looks like an early 70s. Ski Whiz. The design department made a real boo boo with that one.

Sorry to say but the dust kills it. Informative though
