I am so excited for you that you honored your grandmother but still got the civil war quilt patterns and fabric! If that was a gift, your grandmother did you a marvelous favor!! ❤️ The generosity of your giver brought tears to my ears!! (Well, that was an auto-corrupt error I left in for your entertainment. It brought tears to my eyes.)

I am so happy for you Olivia! The quilt couldn’t have found a more gracious home. Anyone can definitely see how much it will be loved. ❤️

Was just at Gettysburg last weekend! Take the 2 hour bus tour...it orients you to what you are seeing where, and then go back and drive through. It is quite a town. The national cemetary is amazing. Walk the town and read the windows with stories of what happened at the homes that were standing. Give yourself 2 or 3 days. How generous of her to give you such a wonderful gift!

Olivia, your enthusiasm and sheer joy for the Civil War quilt was amazing to watch! I totally get it as I too, am a Civil War buff. My great great grandfather Charles was a Union soldier and I inherited all of the letters that he wrote to his wife Deborah plus his 1864 diary and Bible. He was at the Battle of the Wilderness, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and Appomattox. A few years ago I got to visit those battlefields and I truly think I could feel his presence there. I stood in trenches where I imagined him to be and what he described in his letters. He was at the surrender at Appomattox and that was thrilling! I’ve been to Gettysburg and you can definitely feel “something“ there that I’ve never felt before. My husband was quite overcome with a tremendous sadness That he never felt anywhere else. I too have a Civil War quilt in progress, It’s the 150th anniversary of the Civil War by Barbara Brackman her “Civil War sampler” quilt. Can’t wait to see your start in the fall and will look forward to all the updates!

I'm watching this video as a back episode a year later but I am so excited for you that you received such an honored gift! I too am a huge Civil War lover and being from Maryland I have been to Antietam and Gettysburg battlefields many many times. They are two of my very favorite places in the world. I cant wait to follow your progress as you stitch this beauty!

Oh Olivia, I have that series of BOTM too. The model I saw took my breath away! I haven’t finished all the blocks but it is funny you would share this, as my mind has been on getting the kit back out to finish. Here is to us “getting it done” as soon as we can. What a special gift from the lady that sent it to you, a real treasure.
