NO, Your Skyline GTT Will Never Be a GT-R

While it's possible to replicate a Nissan Skyline GT-R by modifying your Skyline GTT, it will still NOT be a GT-R ....and that's not a bad thing.

Building a Skyline GT-R out of GTT donor car is an amazing accomplishment, but legally, it can never be a GT-R - the VIN never lies.

I went to a car show last week and there was this GTT with GTR badges, weird aftermarket bumpers etc.

Asked the owner what he has done to the engine, RB26 single turbo, injection blablabla
But when i asked him to open the hood he said "the latch is broken and i dont have tools with me"

Yeah that conversation was over in that moment

I'd rather have a real GTT than a fake GTR

As somebody who did the swap from gtt to gtr (but kept the rb25), you are 100% right. I rock a custom made GTT Grill Emblem and looks perfect. Looks like GTR but is and will always be a GTT.

And side note, I didn’t pay that much for the build, with oem parts except rear quarters who are in FRP. Did the work myself, paint etc, body parts were like 3-4k

Shout out to the people who got ripped off buying a GTT instead GTR

In Poland there's more M-badged BMWs than factory managed to produce.

Its also important to remember that over half of the GTT to GTR conversions you see have horrible body work

Honestly a R34 GTT is still super rad. Just have that for what it is

I don't mind when someone adds upgraded body mods to look like the higher trim, but a very different thing is to go around claiming it is indeed a higher trim lol. Kinda like an SXT claiming to be a hellcat, which i am starting to see more and more lately lol

People whom aesthetically modify their GT-T’s to look like GT-R’s should just replace the GT-R badge with a Nismo badge ( if they are truly Nismo tuned), or remove the badge/s altogether. Then If someone says “that’s not a real GT-R”, the owner can say, “I never said it was.” It’s a GT-T with a GT-R conversion; hopefully a full one, for more respect considering the work done. Like Craig said, it’s better to not even bother doing all that work and just be authentic and and enjoy a GT- T or 330i for what it is.

You forgot to mention that you can buy a nice R32 GTR or even a R33 GTR for the price of an R34 GTT

Aussie here🇦🇺🙋🏿‍♂️ Skyline 33GTS, 32GTS4, 34GTT etc, are all great cars in their own right and with the correct mods are all absolute weapons, dudes need to check themselves changing badges 🤦🏿‍♂️

I owned a '94 R33 GTS25t from ' 99 to '06 and I could not be more proud that I had a mechanically simpler, rear wheel drive, no ABS, no TCS, no Stability Control, 5 speed manual, pure driver's car that required me to be more responsible for the car's performance. The last thing I wanted was for anyone to confuse it for a GTR.
GTRs are amazing but the car does a lot of the heavy lifting with the driving. The GTS25t, GTT and GTS-t all are fantastic cars that should get plenty of recognition in their own right.

The rwd skylines should be embraced, because they still have all the potential of the skyline platform. The rwd cars have their advantages through weight and simplicity, while still having the skylines aftermarket of the GTR’s.

I'm not sure why people are bagging Craig out so hard for this video. He is 100% right. When I first got my GTT the first thing anyone ever said was "WHEN ARE YOU PUTTING A GTR KIT ON

How ridiculous, why pose, why not appreciate what you already have, it makes zero sense.

He is 100% correct in everything he said, if you have a GTT, embrace it, it's a great car, it's RWD and can handle crazy power on an unopened motor.

Craig, you are one of the realest car guys I've ever come across.

Thanks for making this. As a GTR owner, I'm glad someone actually said it. Skylines are the only car that up badging is "OK" to the greater public. It's "OK" to lie about what you have and misrepresent yourself to unknowing people. Yet, if you upbadge an Evo, Mustang, Mercedes, BMW, etc, etc, everyone will call you out on it. Yet if it's a skyline, you get cheered on for it. GTTs are absolutely cool cars, especially when they're built like modified GTTs. There are GTT specific body kits, GTT specific engine mods, and things you can do with them that you can't with a GTR. When every GTT looks like a GTR, they're all the same. And, boring...

The GTR chassis itself is actually different than a GTT in a number of areas. Example: The transmission tunnel in a GTR is wider to accommodate the transfer case. If you put ATESSA in a GTT chassis you'd have to cut a hole in it. Again - no one is going through this kind of labor for a "conversion", and even then it will still never be a GTR.

This is no different than putting SS badges on a regular ass Chevelle, or M3 badge on a regular 3 series. People have been doing this shit since at least the 1960's. Skylines aren't special. The thing with Skylines is a lot of people don't even know the lesser models exist. They don't know Skylines come in 4 cylinder, 4 door taxi specs.

I bet 99% of all the 12 year old Supra and R34 kids didn't even know trims besides the GT-R existed

The real tragedy is the amount of good condition GTTs will decrease, which will make the GTT more rare.

I'm probably in the minority but I'd much rather have an ER34 GT-t 4 door than a GT-R. The GT-R is legendary and all that. But I want turbo whistle with the practicality of a sedan.
