A conversation with Edward Snowden about our legal case against mass surveillance

The European Court of Human Rights’ judgment on the 10 Human Rights Organisations case is due next week. We sat down with whistleblower Edward Snowden last year to discuss what this case means for surveillance not only in the UK, but around the world. This case was made possible because of Snowden’s disclosures in 2013, and through the combined work of the American Civil Liberties Union, Amnesty International, Big Brother Watch (UK), Bytes For All (Pakistan), Canadian Civil Liberties Association, Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, Hungarian Civil Liberties Union, Irish Council for Civil Liberties, Legal Resources Centre (South Africa), and Liberty (UK).

I truly appreciate Edward for his bravery, he's a hero in my book. If any American care about the citizens of this country then they should be proud of him standing up for the people.

You're doing great work. The surveillance state, and with it, essentially, a permanent presumption of guilt, must be challenged.

Edward Snowden's courage goes so far beyond my own, I can't even conceive of it. I'd literally rather be in combat than to go through what this man has gone through.

Assange, Snowden, Kashoggi, Nawalny, Protasevich - focus points of public interest and opinion inside the hidden network of geopolitics.

I love how instead of interviewing him, they flipped and made him an interviewer… Ed Snowden, is so well spoken, and even his camera presence is powerful. He’s not just a hero in my book, but a true role model - not only of what it means to be a citizen of any country, but morally and ethically. What he chose to do on order to hold not only the US government accountable, but as we can see here, his ripple effects that are still being felt in the EU and around the world… I hope one day he can come back to the US on fair ground, just so I can hear him take on the big guys, and utterly destroy them with his intellectual acuity.

Have you thought about the relation between Suez canal - Evergreen Ship - optic fibre that runs under the canal - tactical scubadivers below the ship and intercepting/redirecting information that was eventually gathered there ?

Great video for us who works with privacy. I remember when he visited us in Norway (tho it was through videolink). I recommend people joining IAPP. Norway is launching it's first privacy study at the University right now and I hope other countries will follow up.

We spend just as much time watching people as the government spends watching us.

UK has an IPT tribunal of humans not a legal strict bar. That is helpful when you cannot show standing. Which will always be the case. IPT has no role if it can't proceed towards a reference ruling on hypothetical.
