TMNT was suppose to be a trilogy. The next movie was gonna focus on Mickey in a Last Ronin type setting

To be fair, there were plans for future movies staring Michealangelo and Donatello, but they got scrapped very quickly. I think that was the main reason they were side libed for the movie
