The door scuff protectors are Expensive. I was always taught not to kick the doors open. It was a respect thing in my family.

100% agree on the body side moldings. They break up that big sheet of steel, look cool and have an actual purpose.
Pro Tip on the door scuff protectors. Do not buy them until you need them. They are super expensive from the factory! IF, in the future your doors get scuffed then order them online (a lot cheaper) and install them yourself (simple double stick) They will cover the old scuffs and you will save a lot of money. The main thing is you might not ever need them so don't buy until you do.

I wish the handle on the steering wheel where you adjust the lights and windshield wipers would light up. I’ve literally had to turn on the flashlight on my phone at night to see the settings… Good video.

I added the body side molding to my STI, I like the look and it DEFINITELY helped with avoiding parking lot dings.

I just learned last night on my auto-dimming exterior mirrors (2024 Outback Limited XT) that the approach lights will not illuminate when approaching the vehicle unless you have the remote FOB with you. In other words, a stranger who doesn’t have the FOB cannot make them light up, along with the accompanying interior lights. That worried me the first time I saw that, so I turned the inside lights OFF so they wouldn’t come on when the approach lights illuminated. However, now I know that unless you have the FOB with you, neither the approach lights nor interior lights will come on.

The autodimming mirrors are wonderful... especially with the ultra bright lights coming up behind you at night!

I’ll be adding the body side moulding to my wife’s Outback very soon.
She parks in a parking garage, but apparently the other Drs and RNs don’t pay too much attention about door dings.
She’s gotten 2 dings in the last couple of months but the body side moldings will cover them up.
I bought after market mud flaps and window vents and saved over $125.

I added the retractable 2nd row sun shades. Made a huge difference for keeping interior of car cooler, and passenger comfortable from sun glare.

I was pretty lucky with my 2021 crosstrek. I walked into the dealership the day it was delivered. It was a car show car that fully upgraded with all of these accessories. The approach lights on the mirrors are fantastic. My car is the horizon blue pearl and the footwell lights are a dim blue. At night it's very faint so it's not distracting at all but bright enough to see anything in the footwell. The side molding looks amazing as well as being functional. Of course the first week I had it my wife throws open her car door and put a nice ding in it.

The car that Alex is showing happens to be my new wagon! I LOVE it…and the XT engine is fantastic. Alex was great to work with and help build out what I wanted. Also, Alex recently sold my wife the Wilderness Forrester - so we are a Subaru family 👍. Thanks Alex for all your videos - very informative and useful.

You can buy the LED interior lights as an aftermarket for a fraction of the price. They’re less than a dollar each.
I usually buy aftermarket parts that fit perfectly and often times the materials are better quality.

Thanks. I just installed a Subaru bug deflector after getting a new windshield on my 2021 Limited Forester . Here’s hoping it helps keep rocks and pebbles away.

I love the approach light on my 16 Forester. Nice to have a light that illuminates each side. I think that is just something that should be standard. Good safety thought! Great video Hope Subaru starts amping up their supply. Love to get the forester wilderness

Alex - I own a 2020 XT Outback Touring (11-1-19 delivery - factory ordered 7-28-19) with all the accessories you mentioned in both your videos. In addition, I have the splash guards (we do get snow in Prescott, AZ), trailer hitch, a full spare tire including mag rim (replaced donut) - tow motorcycle trailer - plus installed a Sylvania P21 bulb for the cargo light. When you really need light, the interior LED accessory I ordered from factory DID NOT INCLUDE an LED in the cargo area. Purchased bulb from O"Reilly Auto Parts. Less than $10 but worth every penny. When trailer hitch isn't in use I've installed a WeatherTech MacNeil Auto Bump Step. Use it all the time when washing the car BUT it's a bumper saver too. In a shopping center I had someone slowly back out a space into the back of my car. Her rear bumper hit my Auto Bump Step. No damage but her rear bumper had a nice dent. A hair dryer would fix her bumper but my step showed no damage to it nor my bumper. Since I didn't like the Outback front grill, I also ordered the Sports Grill from the factory too. PS: I wish Subaru would offer a full spare option instead of donut when ordering the trailer hitch. I donated my tire donut to Prescott Findlay Subaru since it was taking up garage space. Sales and service have been excellent and my recommendations have thanked me for recommending the dealership Ken

One thing I recommend for Forester now that Subaru has them with the Forester logo....mudflaps.
This keep debris from your tires from hitting the sides, to preserve your finish.
They weren't available when I ordered my '22 so I went aftermarket, but a definite desired addon. NOTE - the Subaru splash guards (similar to a mudflap) are useless. Skip those and go full mudflaps with a priority on a front set.

I like a lot of your videos, and don’t precisely disagree with any of the recommendations in this one; but I always chafe a bit when salespeople tell me that they’re selling me a great car, but without an added feature that the manufacturer didn’t deem essential, it’s all going to go to crap (e.g., side molding, scuff protectors, extended warranty).

I’ve got body side mouldings on my Forester Touring, but I need to have them installed on my wife’s Outback.
I remember when automobile manufacturers weren’t so greedy that body side moulding’s
came standard on their vehicles.
